Can’t explain why, other than I’m a massive homer, but I still have faith we’re going to turn it on in league play and surprise everyone.

Richmond was 3-10 in OOC last season and finished 9-9 in the A-10.

Three more games and our guys get a chance to wipe the slate clean.
I can't agree with the wipe the slate clean statement. Paulsen and the "experts" led us to believe we'd be top 4 and in serious consideration for an NCAA bid. For me it boils down to dance or bust. Zero chance of that. 9 - 9 would also be a disappointment given preseason expectations.

I’m not saying I’d be satisfied with
9-9 either. Just referenced Richmond as an example of a team that improved dramatically in conference last season after a terrible OOC performance.

It really doesn’t matter now what anyone’s expectations were. All that matters is what the team does from this point forward and that should be the focus.

Hoping we can beat JMU and Navy and get a little confidence going into the A-10 opener.

It's not gonna change the obvious. DP cant recruit in this league. To be that stoked about Reuter and to now see the results is disappointing and maddening. He put his foot in his mouth. Never takes blame. Always the players fault. Just a little too much of a stubborn dick.
You are spot on. Can Paulsen ever take blame in a post game?? Always mentions practice and its the players fault.

Unfortunately hope or confidence will likely be crushed an used as fertilizer for the corn in Manhattan, Kansas.

Unless this team pulls off a miracle against K-State we’ll have zero momentum going into conference play.

Let’s be real, we overachieved last year and won a bunch of close games.

A more realistic perspective should have been not much has changed and we play a harder schedule we’ll probably be similar to last year, maybe a little better, but not by leaps and bounds.

Unlike last year, we are losing close games and a few good players have forgotten how to play basketball, which is mind boggling.

The fact that we were oversold on Reuter is the most annoying part and the reason I think a lot of people got their hopes up.

Perhaps the most disappointing thing is that they’re showing none of the heart and hustle from last year. Even though we’ve been bad, Paulsen a teams have been fun to root for. I’m not getting that and it’s hard to stay engaged.

Unfortunately at this point 14-7 seems optimistic but I’m not sure it is.

Assuming wins against navy and jmu, and a loss against Kansas state, that leaves a 12-6 A10 slate which means a 3 game improvement from last year. Is that an unfair expectation at this point? It’s not, but they certainly haven’t played like a team that can win 12 games in conference. I’m hoping for at least what we got last year. Anything less and it’s unacceptable. There shouldn’t be regression at this point.

I agree. Given the conference as a whole is down should lead to more victories (although we also appear to be worse than last season). The question is, are the teams that are down — Bonnie’s, GW, La Salle outweigh the teams showing improvement — Forham, Duquesne?

And what of the projected top of the conference. I don’t see is beating Davidson or St. Louis. But what about vcu, UMass, St. Joes, and Dayton (team who were either picked ahead of us or overperforming expectations?)

I’ve still got us somewhere between 10-8 and 7-11 at this point. 11-7 would be a sign Paulsen got this team together and playing like they should be. 12-6 feels like a pipe dream.

I’d love to believe that Jim, but all signs point to not happening. After losing no one from a year ago, taking a trip to Spain, and playing the majority of out of conference games, I see no reason to think we’ll turn it around.

Richmond’s situation last year was quite different from our’s this year.

We have multiple guys who are severely underachieving for no apparent reason. If Otis, Mar and Reuter start consistently playing up to their talent level and Grayer gets healthy, no reason we can’t be a very dangerous team in A-10 play.
