Wouldn’t the tax implications be massive? They currently operate as Tax Exempt.

Major programs like Alabama, Ohio State, and Texas bring in $150M+ annually, with multimillion-dollar surpluses.

If these surpluses were taxed at corporate rates (say 21% federally), they could owe tens of millions annually.
no taxes if their payroll and other expenses has them at break even. probably have to rent the stadium from the school which would create more expense. might be a brilliant move.

brings back those long ago lectures on efficient transfer pricing,
especially to avoid profit generation at the wrong business level

The school will likely end up licensing the university name to the llc. What happens to the ncaa then?

Maybe it makes sense to let the top 20 go their own way. This is starting to feel like semi pro teams and then everyone else. I don’t really care if we play the ‘big’ teams, we really only do it once or twice a decade anyway so not feeling a loss. For those who miss the hint of a chance of going to the final four if their team makes the tournament well perish the thought. In this age of money there is a snowballs chance of that happening.
