How often is JMU ranked in basketball is the next question, lol.
Probably a lot soon...I saw this guy on Reddit who predicts JMU to the Big East:

He's obviously onto something. All the P6 conferences are trying to break into the Northern Shanendoah Valley media market....it's a gold mine!

They don’t draw that well anymore. Our last home game against ODU drew 3,500 fans, 4,400 for JMU.
ODU is downright awful, programs have been told to not schedule them until they improve.

I'm fine with JMU but thats the only nostalgia program I want to see us play. I suspect there will be interest sooner than later. This just use to be a killer NET game for us with nothing to gain. Now that they are improved and Mason is improved, hopefully there is mutual interest.

I was at the ODU / South Alabama this past Saturday, and ODU blew a 22 point lead with approximately 15 minutes to go. It was unreal, except that I had seen it before when Mason blew a similar lead to the aforementioned ODU like 20 years ago. I must admit, there was a bit of schadenfreude going on.

Discouraged by the attendance yesterday against vcu. I worked several angles trying to get more people to attend (MySpace, AOL Messenger) etc. Just don't know why it didn't work. ;)
Yeah it definitely sucks. I could give you 1,000 reasons why (weather, early January, easier to watch on TV, traffic, smelly vcu fans) but It doesn't matter.

I will say that I even saw Pitino quoted as saying that College basketball attendance has to be marketed properly and you have to win and build a base.

Mason has to keep winning at home (23/26) this year and has good opportunities against Bonaventure, Dayton, Richmond, Duquense etc. Hopefully they can bounceback and knock off some of these programs in what will be as important or even more important games down the line.

I thought we’d easily crack the 5k mark last night for the first time this season. Weather probably a factor, but looks like we came in considerably short of that number.

I get selling $10.00 tickets to fill up the student section, but there must be a way to keep visiting fans out. They belong in up in the rafters! Maybe I should be more charitable. I know vcu fans don't have much money.

Were there a lot of vcu fans there last night? Hard to tell on the ESPN+ broadcast.

No - there was a group of 20 or so in the student/GA section next to band, otherwise not that noticeable.
This was not what I saw/heard at all. There was a ton of vcu fans both in the GA section and the sections behind the vcu bench. The constant vcu chants were louder than Mason fans on that side of EBA most of the game.

Will be interesting to see turnout after yesterday's display. People came out in the weather to see it definitely left a bad taste in some fans.

The crowd looked/sounded pretty Mason-forward on TV from way out here in sunny Hawaii. Much better than years where a Saturday game would draw the hordes up from Richmond. Still, I saw a few kids in vcu gear behind both baskets but nothing substantial.

Worst experience ever was Doc's first year as head of the pep band, and he didn't know that you don't play rock n roll part II* with vcu in the building because it's their stupid de facto fight song. Richmond area McDonalds must have been all closed that day because vcu had a huge crowd in the house. Not a good look.

*reminder that "Rock N Roll Part II" was penned by convicted child rapist Gary Glitter. No relation to vcu athletics, of course.

According to espn attendance numbers, there were about 500 more people at the vcu game than were there Saturday for the game with SLU. My impression, from section 102, was that many "new" people were Mason fans. While there was a fair number of folks in vcu gear, there weren't hordes of them and, although they cheered for their team, they weren't particularly obnoxious.
