WTH has gotten into Jalen Jenkins?

Kid has become a KILLER off the bench. He just devours other teams second units. He's playing with so much confidence, and so much aggression, I love it. I don't know if this is a statistical anomaly, or if it's the launching pad for a big senior season, but whatever it is, it's something else to watch. The last 9 games he has been playing at a pretty stinking high level.

There's nothing at which Dave Paulsen isn't better than Paul Hewitt, and that includes player development. Players didn't improve under Hewitt - through two seasons Jalen was still the lanky, bouncy, baby-giraffe like mess of knees and elbows that he was coming out of high school. Now we're seeing him harness his fantastic athleticism into a well-rounded post game, and it's devastating. I would put money on him making a massive senior-year leap after a full offseason in Paulsen's regime.

Dave should get to sleep with Paul Hewitt's wife. It's only fair.

earlier in the year i said i dont think he can handle the work load on his own next season with Shavon gone but man has he proved me wrong. he has played so different and so much better in the last month that he really has showed me that he will be able to shoulder the task next season. Credit to DP for working with Jalen to make him a better player. Just goes to show how a good coach can impact someone.

Love Jalen's emotion as well. Reminds me of Will Thomas in that regard.

Jalen Posted this pick on his instagram after the Davidson game. He also agrees...

I will give coaches credit....but sometimes it's an internal switch.

For some its early, some later, some never.
Agreed. I give DP credit but it is mostly on JJ. He accepted his role, he accepted the coaching advice, and he worked hard to improve. Others have had similar coaching and they sit on the bench.

Or have left the team.

The kid was ranked a 4-star top 100 recruit at one point. It's not like the talent & potential wasn't there (see the A10 Rookie Team), it's just that it was crushed under the weight of incompetent coaching.

It's just a shame that our "shiny new car" former coach wasn't shipped off to the impound lot a season earlier.

Apparently it takes about half a season to fully recover from The Virus.

Fully? Or show significant signs of improvement?

We will MOSTLY be back when we have a 27 win season and get to the second round of the NCAAs, like Larranaga's last year.

I was referring strictly to Jalen, who looked completely lost last season under Hewitt and has played like a freaking monster for most of the past month.

Jalen and Shevon showed great maturity when vcu went zone. Carving up a zone requires two good passing big men and that's what these two are starting to develop into. If they can keep this up, teams doubling Shevon will also get burned.
