Will we ever know what really happened at GW?

That's a great read. I have to admit that I initially bought the allegations of abuse and homophobic comments made against Lonegran, but Deadspin does a very credible job of presenting this as a smear job done by Nero. Not one GW player or coach has gone on record to verify the accusations against Lonegan; in fact, several people have come forward to defend him.

By no means am I saying Lonegran is perfect, but Nero comes across like a groupie frat boy who crossed the line with the coaches, players and fans. It will be interesting to see after this article circulates if any school gives Lonegran another shot.

After reading it, I would think so Tom. I think with the publisher of the Blade and Gordon profusely defending him, I think Lonergan gets another shot. The dude can coach.

Wow... just... wow... I know GW is a rival, but I feel for the kids in the athletic department who had to put up with all that sh!t. I too hope Lonergan gets another shot, while Nero deserves nothing but what the fates give him for what he's done. Wow...

Wow! Maybe a worse AD than TOC? Probably not.
That would be an interesting comparison. First to compare the absolute value of the damage done. Tough to say on this as they are still neck deep in the damage while we seem to be clawing out (recent evidence to the contrary).

Second would be to compare on incompetence of being a successful AD. I think TOC might win that hands down. He did the damage by making poor AD decisions. The GW AD was actually pretty good at the AD part, his addictions are what took him down.

This might be a good way of helping Lonergan get back in the game. Maybe DP should talk to him about joining the staff.

To me, this is the most amazing part of the article:

"Friends of Lonergan say the relationship started going downhill during a 2012 basketball trip to Italy. Three witnesses say Nero acted drunk and loutish throughout the voyage, in front of GW players, staff, alumni and students. One said he saw Nero “inebriated beyond control” while with GW staff on a party barge in Rome."

I'm sorry, but if your name is Nero, that is exactly how you are supposed to act in Italy, but with more murder and raping of young boys.

Coincidentally, I was on a flight once with Kevin Larson from Denmark to Dulles, wish I had known to ask him about this stuff.
