GIVING DAY 2023
Paulsen has hired a new Director of Basketball Operations and it's not Bryson Johnson.

Ted Rawlings comes to Mason from Brown, where he served in essentially the same role last season.

DP seemed very excited to be able to add him to the staff, so that can't be a bad thing.

Welcome aboard, Coach Rawlings!

You make a good point, but I'm in full cheerleader mode and not ashamed to admit it.

Haha, no need to be ashamed, we need some positive vibes around here. One question I did have is whether the director of basketball operations is officially considered a coach. I completely get that they are an important part of the coaching staff, but is it standard at most programs for a person in that position to be listed and addressed as a coach.

I'm pretty sure the DOBO is classified as a coach, with the distinction that he can't recruit off campus.

Yes, although they technically can't partake in practice or help in drills.

Soooo, we now have long list of shit they dont do. Is it a largely ceremonial post, like Prime Minister of Russia?

I think they're mainly responsible for procuring and producing the scouting videos for the team's opponents. Am I correct in this?

That's a large chunk of it. And also doing the travel. Basically, anything you and I don't see (unless you're Towson). Many DoBO's go on to coach at smaller schools after being at a Mason-type school, but then again, there is no rule saying that. I know the women's DoBO at UVA has been there for something like 20 years.
