Big 5 has deep historical roots going back to the early 60's. It is guaranteed high attendance with limited travel costs, and important to recruiting rivalries within the city of Philadelphia and its surrounding areas.
Villanova - was the only program holding the Big 5 together in the recent years. While they were nationally ranked, the other 4 teams declined in quality, but Jay Wright kept it afloat.
As OOC scheduling became more critical for Villanova they changed the model.
Drexel was added and the Big 5 became the City 6.
Teams were split into 2 groups of 3
2 games played within the group for seeding.
Teams will be 2-0, 1-1, or 0-2
Tripleheader played at Wells Fargo for the Championship on the first Saturday in December
