Welcome Chance Konnor

I thought it was time for a Welcome Chance Konnor thread.

Big guy at 6' 11' 235. Grew two inches, since high school. Pursued baseball, but got injured. Played for the basketball club team at VA Tech. Has two years of eligibility at Mason. Worked at Gheorghe Muresan's Giant Basketball Academy.

Given we do not have a true big, why not take a flyer and play this guy? Highlights reels show a player with IQ and athleticism.

Number: 30
Position: Forward
Height: 6-11
Weight: 235
Class: Junior
Hometown: Reston, VA
High School: South Lakes

Chance’s mom?
Lol!

I was hoping to start off with a more serious evaluation and discussion. But that's cool. I'm as frustrated as a lot of folks on this board. I just have never seen such a big guy in a Mason uniform before in a very long time. So here we are...

Signed,

Not Chance's Mom :)

He is the only walk on that hasn't played, so I just assume that the staff actually thinks he has some potential and wants to save him a year of eligibility.

Maybe...can you even red-shirt a walk-on? His job is to be on the scout team and to help Calixte and Oduro get ready for opposing bigs. Whether he ever gets into a game in the next two years, who knows?

I don't think he's hurt, because he's in the Tempchin video wearing a practice jersey and is jumping around with the rest of them like he isn't hurt.

I can’t tell if we are seriously discussing if the walk on from a college club basketball team should be getting minutes on our A-10 team.

I’m sure he’s a great guy and helps the team and all, but there’s probably a reason he didn’t have any offers at that height...

Danny Dixon is in the rotation at NC State this month, averaging about six minutes per game.

Danny Dixon was a scholarship athlete. He’s also like 24 years old now and had a lot of time to develop for those 6 minutes of garbage time (his minutes are pumped up from games where they were up big and down big, he’s only getting 2-3 real minutes a game)

Understand all these points about Dixon. But as part of Dave’s first recruiting class I get that he certainly wasn’t ready for A10, but he looked coachable and had some decent ability.

I think it was also one also one of Daves biggest mistakes to run him off and not have a little depth at the 4/5. imo we didn’t upgrade over him. Perhaps that’s a little bit of hindsight though.

At minimum Dixon would have been bench player and a tall body to throw out there in certain spots once he was appropriately recruited over. Instead we wind up with no depth and big swings and misses on the next 4 bigs (temara, revalo, Calixte, Reuter). Instead we wound up having to run Boyd at 4 a ton along with our other guards, a lot of whom have wound up injured.

No idea what Konnor is. But it’s tempting since he obviously has height. I’d rather see that experiment once or twice in garbage time before anymore walk on guards while JDS a 4 year scholarship player sits on the bench.
