Turncoat Preacher Absconds to Harrisonburg

I heard Father Peter is leaving the Mason community to join the James Madison University community in Harrisonburg, VA.
What are your thoughts?
This is a great loss, and he seemed a very nice man, a huge Mason fan, and I believe he performed most of the on-campus exorcisms since the 1980's.
Normally I condemn turncoats who leave the good grace of Fairfax, but I understand the appeal of challenging oneself, ala Senor Larranaga.
Harrisonburg would be a significant challenge for any man of the cloth. Rife with whores, lepers and Waffle Houses, and known for shitty basketball spanning most of the last two decades, there are almost countless souls in need of guidance down I-81.
What say you, fellow Internet denizens? Do you harbor animosity when people leave for a God-forsaken place as Harrisonburg, or are you sympathetic to those living near the belly of the beast, especially in light of lower property values?

When he spoke about it at the Final Four Event, it wasn't his choice to leave. My understanding is that the diocese reassigns priests periodically. And he had been here 16 yrs (as was his predecessor). Unfortunate for him as he was a Mason alum.

That is correct. I spoke to him and he is not happy about it. My son is going to be a member of the campus catholic youth group because of him. Sad day.

We seem to be lucky attracting the right priest. First Father Bob, then Father Paul. I'm sure the Bishop won't screw us over. No pun intended.

agreed. Father Peter will be missed. He was a Mason Alumnus, this was not his choice. In fact, he's leaving the Diocese of Arlington to join the Diocese of Richmond to accept the position as chaplain at JMU. I went to his going away reception a few weeks ago. Hundreds of people were there to wish him the best.

Nothing like chatting with Father Peter before a Mason game. Could always count on a smile and a handshake as well as him absolutely chugging his red wine to get out in time for tip off. good luck in Harrisonburg!

I liked Father Pete; although, his replacement, Father James Searby, is a good replacement. He was at Borromeo in Arlington, and did a lot of work with my high school in Manassas: Seton School.

He's pretty orthodox, but also has a strong emphasis on working with the youth. I assume he'll be at a lot of the games, and bring the CCM group along with him.

yeah these guys have no say in where they go. He probably avoided it as long as possible. It's another annoying thing about the catholic church, you can have a great priest that everyone loves, and then they send him somewhere else

Look at the bright side, there's a couple of lower open seats now in section 117.
