Time to Return DeAndre Abram to the Starting Lineup?

Since DeAndre is back playing after the benching for the LVC game, why not return to the same starting lineup as the Towson game?

With all due respect to Danny Dixon, it's not like we have Mike Morrison or Will Thomas we can plug in to the post instead.

I think a better question to ask is "What exactly does Deandre give us that Kier doesn't?" Deandre has shown flashes of potential and is an incredible natural athlete, but the fifth starter role isn't guaranteed for him until he starts contributing consistently. He's passive on offense, occasionally falls asleep on defense, and his shot hasn't been falling. I have no problems with giving Kier some extended run and seeing what he can do.

Toward the end of the MSM game, Deandre ran down the floor and took his spot near the 3-point line on the right baseline. Kier started yelling at him and gesticulating wildly, then Deandre looked like he woke up and ran to the same spot on the left baseline. He was out of position and the freshman corrected him. Given Paulsen's reputation as a stickler for the details, this really makes his lack of playing time fall into place.

I really like Kier also. He certainly has a very high basketball IQ. As Coach Paulsen has said, he's basically starting 3 PG's (Otis, Marquise, & Justin).

But, I like DeAndre's rebounding, particularly on the offensive boards.

At this point I want to see Temara start at the fifth spot. It's clear we don't have the horses to run an effective four guard lineup. Temara and Jalen down low would at least give us some solid post defense, let us ugly the game up a little bit (which is the only way we'll win consistently), and develops our best frontcourt prospect for next year after Jalen leaves.

Edit: Nevermind. Just saw the boxscore and Temara had one rebound in 25 minutes. We're hopeless.

Petey, I think your initial post was pretty spot on. Rather than leaving Temara out to dry as the only low post player, why not pair him with Jenkins to free him up to grab more boards and score some easy buckets? Every scouting report is going to focus on Jenkins, so starting him with Temara could help both of them. It certainly can't hurt to try it at this point.

This is basically how Larranaga used Jesse Young when 3-time CAA POY George Evans was playing. Young backed up Evans at the "5", but also played the "4" when they were on the court together. Once Evans graduated, Jesse became the starter at the "5"

With the exception of Otis and Jaire, it appears that the recruiting class of 2016 (with all active players in the rotation) has supplanted the prior class including DeAndre Abram. So, barring injuries, I believe that we can close this thread.

It is quite possible that Murrell and Abram will transfer at the end of the season.

Real breaking news here. It is quite possible Kam Murrell should not be a scholarship basketball player for a D3 school if they had scholarships

Kam's defense alone would get him a scholarship on a CAA level school. Personally, I hope he stays here. He's a "glue guy."

If you get three steals and then miss two layups and commit one turnover you are still not doing much for your team. I also don't think kam is that good of a defender we just don't have much to compare him to. Kam wouldn't be 12th man on Towson btw a caa school

The thing about Kameron is he does have a good stroke. He's just been a bit unlucky some of his shots haven't fallen. He's also a better defender than Otis and at times Grayer. If he does stick around I could see his role eventually being someone that comes in when we need a few 3s, run a few sets for him to get open and then back to the bench.

But being that he's already behind Moore, Otis, Grayer, Kier, Boyd, and Newman and the fact that his situation probably doesn't get any better next year, I'd be surprised he sticks around.
