And no that does not mean I am visiting AOII.

My son moves in on Thursday into Washington Hall. He has his first homework assignments for Calculus and Physics. He is meeting with PiKapps to rush as a legacy and he is on the Rugby team.

I am happy, proud, and verklempt . The bonfire will be at 0800 - and the deflowering of virgins starts promptly at 0930. Jollay - please be there to MC events.

Go Mason Bitches! Second Generation of Pikapp brings back the noise.

When I was single and younger - yes. However, I am happily married and am beyond those years. Besides - Mrs. Pikapp is a sharpshooter and aims to maim not kill. Best idea is to stay on the porch. ;)

I was a commuter student but wish I had just a taste of living on campus. Good luck to PiKapp Jr!

congrats to you and your boy PiKapp...I expect to see him at every Mason game...

Oh he will be - I will make sure of that. Or I don't pay tuition. ;)

He is a little shocked that he already has homework and has gotten emails from his professors with all their website links and calendars

He is furiously updating his calendar (mac and iPhone) and posting test and project due dates. I think the suddeness has pulled him a little off kilter - which is good.

I was just happy and surprised that he had a choice between software engineering programs from JMU, Tech, VMI and Mason and after meeting with a lot of people he chose Mason. He said it was no contest based on his review of labs, the conversations he had with professors and reading through program materials. He had lunch with two of his future professors where they provided some academic guidance and insight into what he would be doing in the program.

Plus he already has two offers for summer internships.

He might actually be employed before he graduates. For parents - that is like nirvanna.

Congrats to your son. I'm a bit surprised (albeit very happy) that rising college students are starting to put as above Tech in STEM fields. It's a good sign for Mason.

I was too - but I think it also has to do with the type of engineering - software, civil, and electrical - Mason is very competitive. Tech still has an edge in mechanical and aerospace.

Another high school friend of my son's is taking mathematics and software engineering.

The landscape has changed a lot over the past 20 years.

Do we even have mechanical/aerospace? Isn't that why they want to build a second engineering building?

We do have a nascient mechanical engineering program - that is the next area to receive investment. We have electronic, civil, computer, software, bioengineering, telecom/communications, network, robotics and AI/automation and all IT covered in spades.

Justy had to provide some update from freshman move in. Surprisingly - it was very efficient. The moved in over 6000 students in one day in a very structured and organized fashion. We started at 0800 and had the boy moved in and set up by 0845.

President Cabrerra visited all the halls - I met him and shook hands and introduced him to my son. He was excited to hear that my boy is the second generation of Pikapps to be at Mason and he actually hung around for 10 minutes.

Overall great day.

Well my son came home from the weekend and gave a debrief on his first week at Mason.

Overall he loves it. He was rushed by three fraternities - but he chose PikappaPhi - Of course. He said that there is a lot going on at campus. They have barbecues and volleyball and football games in the President's park quad. He has been to four parties. Apparently there is something called the "Party Railroad " where caravans pick up students from the dorms to parties. I actually saw it - pretty impressive. The "beer uber".

He loves his classes and says living on campus is great. He likes the food and the fact everything in the dining halls stay open late.

I told him and the brothers of Pi Kappa Phi - that they must be at every game - or I will start showing up at the parties - ready to dance and bring the pain.
