Still Waiting for Jalen Jenkins

Pablo

Hall of Famer
In the last 5 games beginning with the home game vs. GW on 3/4 last season, redshirt junior forward Jalen Jenkins has scored a total of 24 points and committed 22 personal fouls:

GW: 3 points & 5 personal fouls
vcu: 6 & 5
Fordham (A10 tourney): 6 & 4
Colgate: 5 & 3
Mercer: 4 & 5

Where is the Jalen Jenkins who we expected to become an All-Conference player?

When I watch him play, I think to myself, "Has that fella every played this game before?" Unfortunately, he isn't an A-10 caliber top player. A CAA player for sure!

Both Jenkins and Thompson are so poor fundamentally I doubt they will have much of an impact this year in Paulsen's system.

DP has to find a way to utilize Shevon and Jenkins. To much ability not to. If he doesn't, I feel the above statement is meaningless.

Are we crashing the offensive glass enough? I remember a Bucknell fan saying Paulsen isn't into sending players in to grab offensive rebounds, preferring to get back on defense, but it seems to me that with our size and horrible shooting we should be following the ODU school of tossing up trash and getting the putback

We crashed the crap out of the offensive glass last night, to the tune of 12 offensive rebounds. That is a lot.

The problems Jalen and Shevon are having aren't due to anything strategic. While we are having trouble getting the ball into the low post, neither has been particularly effective when we have.

Shevon especially has been a turnover machine. He's not going to play if he can't learn to protect the ball.

I think both their problems are that they have no mid range game. That causes them to have so many travel and charging calls.

I think I remember Jenkins having an ok jumper, he needs to bring it back.

Even being able to hit a consistent jump shot at the foul line will mess up a zone.

We can't hit a FT standing still, so I'm not sure we'll have much success popping jumpers from there; but I completely agree anything is better than clanking errant 3s.
