Sounds like the kid wasn't ready to move away from home. Great break for St. Louis, not a long term blueprint for mid-majors though. Can't bank on the locals not wanting to leave (especially in our area where Georgetown and UMD reside.)

Travis Ford is a snake-oil salesman who amasses talent and consistently underachieves with said talent. Terrible game coach. His teams are almost always less than the sum of their parts.

Remarkably, he won nothing despite having Marcus Smart and LeBryan Nash, two of the top 25-50 players in the country, on the same team at Okie State.

Lazy reporters who obsess over recruiting rankings love guys like Ford because they think the coach just rolls out the balls and lets the talent take over.

Somebody should ask Hewitt how well that worked out for him.

I'm willing to bet anyone $100 that Paulsen will coach circles around Ford for as long as both are in the A-10.

It's really not close to a fair fight.

Damn hasn't coached a game yet but bringing in some good players. He also landed some 2017 kid everyone in the a10 was after, something French.

You are certainly correct about him being a terrible in game coach. He also had like 4 injuries to big men on that Smart and Nash team where they were starting walk ons equivalent to Danny Dixons skill level versus other Big 12 bigs... But I digress

If the national media wasn't so lazy and uninformed, they would note that Ford has a 16-year track record of almost always getting less out of his teams than their individual abilities suggest he should've.

Without a good coach, talent is largely wasted and certainly cannot be deployed to maximum effect.

Paulsen is from the McKillop/Larranaga school of coaches who rarely make headlines for their recruiting, but always get the most out of players ignored or underappreciated by the so-called experts.

Ford is from the other school. SLU fans will find out soon enough.
