Great end of the season run.
Currently sitting at 15-15 overall with one league game and the Conference Tourney left to play.

Where does GMU play in the post season?

1) NCAA - Probably needs to win the Conference Tourney

2) NIT - Maybe the best hope?

3) CBI
4) CIT
5) others?

I like the enthusiasm... but we are still a 500 squad with a close to 200 RPI. We realistically have no shot at the NIT since the only auto qualifier is winning the regular season conference. We can obviously dance if we win the A10 tourney, but absolutely 0% chance of an at large (we aren't even close to an at large for the NIT). Maybe the CBI and CIT but I think after last year DP is turned off from them. Let's just enjoy what this season is becoming. Really our eyes are on next year.

oh, please, no CBI or CIT. However, I know the "I just want to see this team play more basketball and get more experience" is coming from many here. Just take the positives from the push here at the end of the regular season and, hopefully, A10 tournament and get ready for next season. Those tournaments are embarrasing and should be abolished.

The Patriots have appeared in the NCAA tournament six times. Their combined record is 5–6.

The Patriots have appeared in the National Invitation Tournament (NIT) four times. Their combined record is 3–4.

The Patriots have appeared in the College Basketball Invitational (CBI) two times. Their combined record is 4–3.

The Patriots have appeared in the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament (CIT) one time. Their record is 0–1.

Nowhere. Paulsen isn't going to make the same mistake again and put this team into the CIT or CBI. Ride the wave as long as we can boys and get ready to dominate next season.

OP - love the enthusiasm, bring it to the block party Saturday! However - zero chance of NCAA without cutting down the nets in DC. Zero chance of NIT, period - not possible to qualify.

Unlikely to accept a CBI or CIT bid after last years debacle. However, Paulsen admitted after that game that the team was emotionally drained after the let down vs vcu because they burned their boats for that game.

Assuming we don't have a similar crushing defeat in the A10 tournament, the vibe is completely different this year with no seniors and the team flying along on mid-atlantic touring magical buzzer-beating carpet ride and continuing to improve week over week.

Not arguing we should accept a bid, just saying the decision may be viewed through a different lens instead of merely saying "we should have said no last year, so we are going to say no this year."

For my own selfish reasons, I would like to see them play and I think it's possible the experience can help - but acknowledge the AD and staff are in a much better position to make the decision, especially considering the potential costs of hosting/participating.

Maybe I'm wrong but don't the cost sharing mechanisms of those tournaments usually mean we don't lose much, if anything? I'd be ok with taking a bid if it meant the possibility of making a little money to go towards facilities. Otis grabbing another 50 points or so in his march to 2k would be a nice bonus as well.

I honestly have no idea - all I know is that I've heard these tournaments cost the schools money to participate (given the near certainty that ticket sales will be inadequate).

I believe it's been the required four years since our last one, so let's skip a pay-to-play tournament and let our guys focus on taking a summer trip to Italy or Spain to play a few games and get some good team bonding time in.

I think last year people said that the money was spread out evenly or something and that it basically comes out as a wash unless you go far, in which case you make a small profit.

I say drop the CBI and CIT and allow schools to have ONE "post season exhibition."

Negotitate the place and the gate. That way we could play Georgetown..or some other school that's willing to take a local/regional game.

Game doesn't count in the record, no big travel expense, schools could make a few bucks, and maybe you get a game you won't normally. A glorified scrimmage.

Again..only for willing schools where it makes sense or a deal can be reached.

Just want to point out, without crushing the OP, that merely creating a thread like this prior to a critical regular-season finale could conceivably create all kinds of negative ju-ju with the basketball gods.

In the interest of appeasing them and avoiding their vengeance on Saturday, we should sacrifice a poster as soon as humanly possible.

I vote DJ3 but would be willing to go with PMP, whatever everybody else decides.
