Without knowing his political views, I don't know if I support this or not.

See how stupid that sounds.

I don't give a shit if Shar is the bastard love child of Karl Marx and Satan. It is $10 million dollars.

Mason has raised $40 million in two months.

As a grad of this school, and current grad student in the school, I'm very excited about this. Not on his side politically but don't care. We don't pay our faculty well and it's a small miracle we have congressmen and a former head of the CIA on the payroll as it is. Hopefully we pull in some more big name faculty. I like this way more than the Scalia one because this guy actually has ties to Mason and has served the Mason community.

I cannot in good conscience accept a donation from somebody that perpetuates a slur against Native Americans.

I invite all liberals on this board to light themselves on fire in protest.

Seriously, I do it all the time. Most of the skin sometimes grows back.

I have people that do that for me. It's kinda fun to watch

Would love a Michael Bloomberg level donor at Mason ($1.1 billion to Johns Hopkins). They say he started with giving just $5 a year after graduating there. His last donation, I believe, was $350 million.
Again, the fact that Mason doesn't have an IPTAY type deal going for young alumni blows my mind.

We could always ask the university/athletics to set this up. $15-$20 a year and get a Mason whiskey glass or something small in return as an incentive.

I suggested this a few years ago, I think. It's a way to get young alums in the habit of giving, so that when they start making good money, they scale up their donations accordingly.

It ALSO is enough so randoms in the area don't feel bad about doing it, and you build a sense of community involvement with the university. You give donors a bumper sticker that says "Mason Donor" or something, and people are in, and I bet you see a bump in attendance at games. Even if it's just a little, when you have a little skin in the game, you're more interested.

It doesn't even have to be 20 bucks a year. You just do something like "who can't afford 5 bucks a month? We'll take it out of your account so you never have to bother with it". You've then gotten a $60 donation that may or may not scale up.

It would provide some money, but what it REALLY does is get people comfortable with donating, and set the stage for 15 years from now, when some folks who got in the habit are now donating 1000 a year, and the BIG earners are doing more.
