Calling George Mason “one of the most exceptional stories in higher education,” President Ángel Cabrera announced that Mason has raised more than $664 million to support students, faculty, campus facilities and research. That total will continue to rise through the end of the calendar year, when the decade-long campaign will officially end.

“This is the secret of the great American university: a community that comes together, that does whatever it takes to build a great institution for the service of everyone, today and tomorrow,” Cabrera said.

Faster Farther was announced publicly in September 2015 with a $500 million goal. In 2016, Mason recorded its best fundraising year ever, $98.3 million, and that momentum has continued. More than 73,000 donors, including alumni, faculty, staff and community leaders, have made gifts during the course of the campaign.

So we began Faster Farther in 2009, but announced it publicly in 2015? I'm confused with the "decade-long campaign" phrase. I thought it began in 2015 and will conclude at the end of 2018.

So, back when I was involved with Mason fundraising, I understood it like this: They start a fundraising campaign well before they announce it. The usually secure the biggest commitments in this quiet phase. Based on how the quiet phase goes, they determine if they are going to achieve their targets (and adjust if necessary). Then the public campaign begins with near guaranteed success at achieving their stated goals.

Agreed - it was like the last two campaigns. However, the last one topped out at $445 million. This one blew by original expectations. it might finally reach $673 million.

Not bad.

How is that possible when the money was allotted for the project and project began?

All I know is this is part of the overall Basketball Excellence Program, which is a $15 million project and on giving day there will be a dollar for dollar match up to $5,000 for the men’s and women’s locker rooms.

Speaking of the locker rooms....I assume by now they are done. Mason athletic department is dropping the ball by not blasting pics/videos all over social media.

I’ve been told that the locker rooms were done, but I’m certainly scratching my head that it’s the project again for this year.

This. Make it known that you've upgraded the locker rooms, show them off! Not doing so just doesn't make any sense to me.

My guess is the locker room area is done, but the other areas like the restrooms and film area are not. Just a guess.
