I'm really shocked he lasted this long. He had some good talent over the years, but no NCAAT appearances in 15 seasons speaks volumes. I'm sure he'll get an assistant job at some BCS school with no problem at all.

My seats are about a dozen rows back behind the visitors bench (thank goodness they aren't any closer!) and he always was animated and entertaining, in his inimitable if profane style. Gave us fans lots of practice shouting "Give him a T, give him a T!" to the refs and sometimes they obliged.

Strangely, he and Larranaga were pretty good buddies--went on some golfing vacations if I'm remembering right.

Bruiser Flint is the star of one of my favorite basketball stories.

Drexel is down at Mason, and a couple of his bigs had gone up carelessly and missed a couple bunnies.

At the next timeout, runs up to them, reaches up and grabs them by the chest, forcibly pulls down down (WAY down) to his level, and for 15 seconds SCREAMS AT THE TOP OF HIS LUNGS over and over and over and over again"DUNK THE F*&(ING BALL!! DUNK THE F*&^ING BALL!! DUNK THE F*&^%ING BALL!!" like a half inch from both of their faces.

The man is a character, that's for sure.

Especially because most of us can probably picture exactly what his face looked like when he was screaming!

I agree, but he was also robbed in 06-07 and got vcu'd a few times in Richmond.

The school also did him no favors with those facilities either. It's not quite William and Mary level complacent, but the DAC is woefully inadequate for a division I basketball program.

I'm surprised he didn't get lucky a la Monte Ross once all the Virginia heavyweights left. That also speaks volumes that Both Ross and Bradley where able to pull off NCAA appearances and not him.

My favorite Bruiser memory is when George Evans was absolutely owning Robert Battle in the paint and he got benched. Bruiser walked over and proceeded to scream at him that Evans owned him and had officially made him his bitch. The "pep" talk didn't work and Evans continued to take his lunch money.....

I always felt like his coaching style squeezed the most from the talent level on his roster early on, like they did beating #21 Louisville in Kentucky.

But that as the season went on, it wore guys down and wore them out, which is why his squad never won the CAA despite having some really talented players.

Both of those guys would be outstanding hires for JMU.

Caputo would be an excellent hire for them. He knows the conference and the recruiting area, and he is long overdue to get a head coaching job. Not to take anything way from Huger, Konkol, Cherry or James Johnson, but Chris has waited patiently while watching every other Coach L assistant move on. His time has arrived!

Keatts was Luke Hancock's coach at Hargrave Academy, who became an assistant at Louisville the year they recruited him away from Mason.
