Open Scrimmage - Saturday, October 27th, 1 PM, Eaglebank Arena

Since I figured a lot of people on here will attend the open scrimmage next weekend, I felt it would make sense to have a thread discussing it since this will be the first time (outside of Mason Madness) that fans have been able to see the team in action.

Based on the e-mail, you can park in Lot "L", only the west entrance will be open, an autograph session will be held afterwards, and food will be available for purchase. If you want to get your season tickets at the same time:

If you would like to pick up your tickets at the scrimmage, RSVP by October 21st to icatix@gmu.edu.

Discuss.

You have to e-mail the address provided so the staff knows you are going to pick up your tickets and not mail them to your residence.

If you are not picking up your tickets, but plan on attending the scrimmage, you just walk into the arena, and the tickets will be mailed the week of October 27th.

I think originally this event was set up for season ticket holders only, glad they are inviting the general masses now.

It is possible I misspoke, but time will tell. I mean, how can staff tell who should be there and who shouldn't.

There is nothing on gomason.com and the e-mail that came out yesterday doesn't explicitly say anything about this being for season ticket holders only.

It wasn't you that gave me that impression. I got an email from Mason on the 8th that said this.

"As a season ticket holder, we would like to invite you to our men's basketball team's open scrimmage on Saturday, October 27th at 1:00PM at EagleBank Arena. Don't miss out on your first chance to see the Patriots in action!"

Lot of good things seen at the scrimmage.
  • Many good drives (and not just Otis) with dishes out for others open for 3s
  • Hartwell is going to help up this year; solid pg play with good drives to the basket.
  • Good scoring from Kier, Greene, Otis, Boyd.
  • Nice 3s from Jaire--looks fully recovered from the injury/surgery.
  • Calixte defended Reuter well and showed a few moves of his own.
In comments afterward, Paulsen said:
  • Penn is quite good (top 50 team); the season won't be over if we should happen to lose to them
  • Not sure how deep we will be yet; potential to be very deep and versatile. Much depends on how a player is willing to defend.
  • they've put in a few new out of bounds plays after someone commented on that in the open practice last summer.
  • Promoted the women's soccer game later in the day
  • Commented that as for the game in Spain that we lost, the refs were very "creative"

I asked Jaire if he was all healed up and ready to go, he said he was and seemed very excited for the season (also looked it in the scrimmage).

In the opening period, Otis, Jaire, Kier, Mar and Jarred where all on the same team - made me think those are the likely starters. Boyd switched with Mar, I believe, for the 2nd period. So he is probably the 6th man and will see starter'ish minutes.

For the gold/young team - JDS was clearly the primary scoring option, until Green heated up and started hitting 3's.

Overall, I believe Kier was the leading scorer.

Players did their 40 out of 50 FT drill while Paulsen was speaking and taking Q's, when he was finished, one group had finished and the other was 38 of 48. So Paulsen put Kier on the spot and explained to everyone that he had to hit both to end the drill/practice.

Kier sunk both under slight pressure, including my son randomly screaming out due to nap time approaching.
