As the 2015-16 basketball season nears, Mason Athletics has released puzzle pieces on social media all week to unveil a 10th anniversary logo to commemorate the men’s basketball’s run to the 2006 NCAA Final Four.

Throughout the basketball season, Mason Athletics and its fans will be looking back to the magical 2005-06 season that culminated in the Patriots’ “Cinderella” run to the Final Four.

"The 2006 Final Four was a memorable time for the entire George Mason community," stated Assistant Vice President, Director of Athletics Brad Edwards. "We are thrilled to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of that historic achievement this season beginning with the unveiling of the this anniversary logo, as we usher in a new era of Mason basketball. We look forward to celebrating this milestone all season long in EagleBank Arena."

Throughout the 2015-16 men’s basketball season, Mason Athletics will commemorate the historic run through several avenues including appearances from members of the 2005-06 team at home games throughout the year, postgame autograph sessions as well as commemorative videos and memories recognized during games all season long in EagleBank Arena.

Mason begins its season under first-year Head Coach Dave Paulsen on Friday, November 13 against Colgate in EagleBank Arena. The season unofficially begins with Mason Madness on Friday, October 16 at 8 pm. For season ticket information, please visit the ticket page on GoMason.com.

Ten years . . . it seems like only yesterday that Lamar made that four point play. That is when I started thinking it was actually possible that we would go to the FF.

GIVING DAY 2023
As part of our 10th anniversary celebration, Mason should host an event where the first 5,000 fans get to line up and peg green dodgeballs emblazoned in gold with "Thanks for blowing the Final Four!" at Merten and TOC.

Yeah, OK, so I guess I've put a little thought into this plan. Doesn't make me a bad person.

SO did Mason mess up their press release with "Friday October 16" or were they looking at a different Calendar then i am?

Anyone else feel it odd that we have to have a 10th anniversary logo?
I know there isn't a blueprint to follow for what happened in 2006, but is a logo necessary? What is the intended use? Is it going on the court or on the uniforms?

We certainly need to celebrate the 10th anniversary and what is outlined in the press release sounds on point.

A patch on the uniform and a logo on the court both sound like nice touches (although I doubt they'll be able to wear the patch every game for some weird NCAA rule against it.)

We commemorate the accomplishment, not the bullcrap that happened afterward.

Given the state of our program, I don't blame Edwards for doing everything he can to connect with a time when Mason was on top of the basketball world.

Actually seems like perfect timing for the AD to get a little juice flowing about the upcoming season doesn't it? 10th anniversary of the final four coinciding with a new Adidas deal, a new arena name and a new coach.

NCAA Final Four appearances for current A10 schools:

Duquesne - 1940
LaSalle - 1954 & 1955
St. Joseph's - 1961 (appearance vacated by NCAA for point shaving)
Dayton - 1967
St. Bonaventure - 1970
UMass - 1996 (appearance vacated by NCAA due to Marcus Camby receiving money and gifts from sports agent)
Mason - 2006
vcu - 2011

Nice reminder Pablo of how rare a Final Four appearance is. Since we did it, some feel it's our birthright to make it again and SOON. Would be nice, of course, but being a threat to make the NCAAs on a regular basis is what most non-elite programs can realistically aspire to. Make it enough times and maybe be fortunate enough to get some good matchups and go deep into the tournament once a decade.

The logo is up, and its pretty good. A lot going on, but well done. Now that I look at it the basketball actually looks like its swishing through the logo. I like the gold 2006-2016 banner, and the roman numeral 10 behind it all is a nice touch. Well, done, Now if we can punch a ticket the next few years. Here's the Big Dance final four logo which will be in Houston this year.
