Walk-On
Thoughts and prayers out to Herb Kruzen, who was involved in a serious car crash while visiting is daughter in London a few days ago. Apparently pretty serious, judging from the comments I have seen, but I don't have any more details.

He was assistant to Ernie Nestor and is currently head coach at Georgetown Prep.

If I find out any more, I will let you know.

A few more details. He was in England to visit his daughter and watch her play in a college basketball tournament. After the tournament they took a trip to London and were crossing a road when a group of bikers and motorcyclists came around the corner and they were unable to get out of the way. His daughter only sustained a gash on her arm, but Herb's head hit the ground and caused a brain injury. They did surgery to relieve the pressure on his brain and he was in a medically induced coma to allow the medicines and his body heal.

He has since been brought out of the coma, but now comes the recovery phase which requires a lot of retraining of the brain. Everyday seems to show good progress, so his daughter is optimistic about his recovery, no matter how slow.

I know it has been about two weeks since my last update, but I didn't want to go crazy with it.

Herb is making significant progress. He is speaking in small phrases and they are starting to transition him to soft food so that they can take the feeding tube out. He has become more aware of his injuries and is making good progress in his rehab. He has even tried to talk his daughter into letting him leave. He has finally remembered some of the things that him and Nicole shared (handshakes, phrases.) I expect to hear the plan for Herb coming back home to finish his rehab sometime in the next week or so.

Herb is now speaking better and playing iPad memory games (and winning) with his daughter on a daily basis. He is also eating more everyday and will probably be taken off the feeding tube soon (if he hasn't already.) No word yet on his next surgery to finish repairs to his skull, but I imagine it will be soon. His daughter tells of his want to go home and that is motivating him on his rehab and recovery.

Now for some really good news. After a CAT Scan last Friday, Herb has been cleared to fly. So his return home is being planned and he should be back in the area within the next couple weeks. The hold up is that he needs to be accepted into the rehab center (he is still going to require more rehab) plus the insurence company must agree to what is still needed. So it is down to logistics, but at least he can return closer to home to finish his recovery!!! Thanks to all the positive energy and prayers from the board. His daughter and Herb appreciate it all.
