Clicked on some links through twitter, don't know if anyone else has seen it but it looks like there is a new Mason based fan website http://giantkiller.co/ Kind of like gmuhoops... except better.

Whoever the person is props to them. He or she is obviously trying to restore and encourage enthusiasm and life back into the program. Their twitter has some solid info on it @GMUGiantKiller, especially with recent recruits we have offered. Good source for info.

I believe the site is run by several current students / Platoon members.

This is a good site. I bookmarked it and it will be interesting to read, especially from the perspective of a current student.

Edit: I've been on it all morning and it is really good. It will be in my rotation of MasonHoops (still my favorite) but at first glance it is more solid than GMUHoops (still solid IMO, minus the infrequent updates).

Giant Killer? Here it's August and with the big dance over a half year away I go to Saratoga for my sporting fix and with American Pharaoh winning the triple crown and now the Haskell its only logical he run in the Travers Stakes in mid-August in Saratoga. The pressing question I have is if this horse can be beat in that race. I do think so. The true and original "giant killer" is the legendary H. Allen Jerkins who's horses twice defeated the incredible Secretariat back in the 1973, first with Onion in the Whitney stakes and later with Prove Out in the Woodward Stakes later that same year. His horses also defeated five time horse of the year Kelso and he has also defeated Buckpasser, Riva Ridge, Forego, and other champions.
But can George Mason Hoops be classified in the "Giant Killer" category? Notwithstanding their incredible run in 2006 I think not. George Mason basketball are not giant killlers per se but legitimate contenders ready to play and win against the foe put before them. They are contenders. I see them standing toe to toe with whoever stands in their way. I see them as legitimate competitors.
But its August. I have to get my sporting fix in Horseracing at Saratoga and I admit I am betting against the favorite American Pharaoh. This March I will be rooting for contender George Mason. Thank God for sports. I just don't know if Mason fits the "giant killer" moniker, I see them as tough contenders.

Here's to hoping Coach Paulsen and his staff can turn GMU into contenders again. No contending going on since Larranaga split. Hasn't been fun going from a contender to just hoping to avoid the A-10 play-in game. (then not avoiding it and losing them both to Fordham)

Confucius say, "He who bet against American Pharoah make Paul Hewitt look like genius."

Its going down this Saturday---Triple Crown winner American Pharaoh is taking his talents to Saratoga racetrack for the Travers Stakes. Its not happening, he won't win it an underdog is going to upset him. March Madness still a long ways away, I have to get my underdog fix here. And I also am expecting a first round bracket bust from George Mason come March. I know its asking a lot, I need Pharaoh to lose, and Mason to win. So let it be written, so let it be done!

I read where the track at Saratoga decided about a month ago or more to sell tickets in advance for the Travers. Travers always drew the biggest crowd of the 6 week meet, and often drew more than 40,000+ but I don't recall that they ever sold tickets in advance. Anyway they capped sales at 50,000 and it sold out very quickly, way before the announcement that American Pharoah would definitely run. Might be some scalping going on!

Should be an interesting race. Wouldn't be the first time a triple crown winner couldn't win the "fourth" jewel:

American Pharaoh gets edged in Travers, George Mason surprises in the NCAA tourney. Thats whats happening I'll call it early. The roster of the George Mason basketball team looks like a motley crew of players and while I can call the upset of American Pharaoh, I really have no idea what this team is going to do. You can't call this team stacked by any measure. I hope they surprise, but it can go either way. I do like this team though. You could even bring Hewitt back and I'm confident this team is going to get out on the floor and they will be on auto pilot, some big surprises coming up this year when they get out on the floor. Murrell will surprise. The seniors will surprise. The hard part will be getting into the dance. Once they are in, they will have the cinderella advantage. A number one is going down this year too. Its the year of the cinderella. Mason could be a contender.
