"George Mason student produces Final 4 documentary" by Alan Kelly

George Mason graduate student Jake McLernon created a 15 minute documentary about the 2006 Final Four as the capstone project for his Masters of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies, Film and Video Studies. In 8 Years Past Midnight, released on YouTube today, McLernon analyzes what happened to Cinderella (George Mason University) after the clock struck midnight. […]

Thats a great video, parts of it gave me chills. It's sad seeing where we were 9 years ago and where we are now. Can't wait for this season to be over so we get a new coach to hopefully turn this thing around.

I might catch a lot of flak for this.

George Mason should NOT celebrate the 10 year anniversary.

We did bobbleheads for the 5 year anniversary.

At a certain point we can't keep milking the cow that went dry a long time ago.

Celebrate Dre Smith or Mike Morrison or some of the 1980s Patriots.

If we ever hope to get to the vcu, Memphis, and Gonzaga level we can't let one moment define us forever.

We have to build multiple moments and whenever a stranger brings up 2006 I counter with 2011...

Is this the right place to say we should start retiring jersey numbers already? Evans 21, Butler 22, etc.

I'm as nostalgic as the next guy, but watching that makes me feel like I just attended a funeral. It's nice to relive the memories — and it was cool to see the collage I created shown at the 4:47 mark — but it's also a reminder of how much we squandered the opportunity.

Did anybody else find it interesting that Hewitt wasn't interviewed for this? They found the time to include Cabrera and Edwards but conveniently left out the guy now running/ruining the program.

How about interviewing Jim Larranaga?

We should be able to do both.

The school will be giving away George Evans bobbleheads at the UR game on Feb. 14: http://www.gomason.com/ViewArticle.dbml?&DB_OEM_ID=25200&ATCLID=209712920&KEY=&DB_OEM_ID=25200&DB_LANG=&IN_SUBSCRIBER_CONTENT=

Also, after naming Lamar Butler as our Atlantic 10 Legends honoree last season, Mason named Rob Rose to this season's Legends: http://www.gomason.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=25200&ATCLID=209850796

This is probably thinking about it too much, but am I the only one that finds calling somebody an "A10 Legend" when they haven't played an A10 game ever strange?

Also up for debate is if Lamar Butler's career warrants a jersey retirement....I say no. If I were forced to pick someones jersey to retire from that final 4 group it would be Will Thomas.

So who would we nominate? I think we all agree Evans. Then past that arguments could be made for:

Yates
Butler
Thomas
Rose
Gaddy
Miskiri
Pearson
Morrison

How do we know he wasn't asked? Anyway, I could understand being upset if he were retired and didn't participate; however he's now employed by another university to do the same thing with them as he did with us.

Sanders, Long, ... Rudolph Jones? A good place to start would be to consider all the guys who earned first-team all conference honors.

This should probably be a separate thread.

You could be correct, although it certainly would surprise me if he turned down the opportunity to participate in a documentary about his greatest coaching achievement.

Very nice documentary. I think I would of included more interviews from the actual team itself rather than just from Lamar. Would be interesting to hear from Will, Jai, Tony, or even Gabe. The woman in black is irrelevant and I can't even remember her name from the movie, same with the guy from the sports management program.

I think this is more of an honor and look back to the team and what we accomplished. Doesn't mention much of how a failure we have become since after L left us. Maybe the guy didn't want to dwell on that but maybe provide a sentimental look back.

I wish more people/sports fans would step up and do more things like this. We need to unite this community and team once again.

While I loved every second of it and it was the most awesome athletic experience ever, I can't help but be sad (and a little mad) and where things are now. I'm not saying we should be in the FF every year, but still.

Great video except for the choice to include Merten. I still ultimately blame him for where we are now as a basketball program. Made me sick seeing him in the video.
