So who do you want? A rematch to a LaSalle team we should have beaten the first time around, or a third matchup against a UMass team we swept but needed overtime both times?

Mass put up some real stinkers this year but also played the top teams very very tough, including us (hard to think of us as a top team this year but we did get the 5 seed and I think that qualifies).

LaSalle took URI to overtime and dropped 93 on them but their only quality wins are us and St. Louis.

Either one strikes me as a good matchup on a neutral court that is not quite neutral, when we are rested and they are not. Personally I'd like the rematch against LaSalle. I don't believe their defense was good enough to force Calixte, Mar, Grayer, abd Livingston into uncharacteristically bad games and I don't believe they all have an off night again. I also think it's hard to beat a team 3 times, especially when the first two were OT games.

Umass has depth problems worse than Mason so if they somehow won, they’d most likely be more tired Thursday. Lasalle would probably be the tougher matchup.

Either way, let’s hope they go 4 overtime’s playing one another.

Both teams are the same to me, but I think I'd rather face Pimpkins than BJ Johnson again.

La Salle is the better and deeper team, just by virtue of the fact that UMass has five active scholarship players.

The combo of Johnson and Powell is more dangerous than Pipkins by himself.

In a tournament format, we definitely want UMass. Pipkins is a stud but with such a quick turnaround we will be able to run and get into their legs, especially in the second half.

That's my thinking. However, we did let a walk-on score 11 points against us in our last game against UMass. And then there's CJ Anderson (21 points) and Pierre (4-4 from 3) to contend with.

Granted, Miller, Anderson, and Pierre for UMass are no Washington, Stukes, and Powell; but this team hasn't really shown they can consistently shut anyone down, so it's a toss up to me whichever team we get.

If they don’t start to defend it won’t matter who they play. Richmond stinks. I’ve never seen so many wide open looks from in and out.

La Salle's Washington provides a match up problem for our bigs and if their guards are on and hitting their 3's we will lose.

UMass just doesn't scare me.

I want UMass to get on to the next round. La Salle has a better shot at beating us.

Can you all let Grayer know we have a game this Thursday..... great, thanks

Preferred Walk-On
Cant wait for Thursday. Sitting in section 110. Should feel like an old CAA tournament with vcu playing before us.

I'm thinking Umass is the preferable matchup, but either one we can beat by 20 or lose by 20 to.

Just like pretty much any game the last month or so huh? :chuckle:

Who is going? I'll be there Thursday and Friday.

Also, pregame alumni association party at Iron Horse on Thursday with complimentary appetizers and cash bar.

I'd prefer UMass. Their five scholarship players will have to step up big and give a lot away to beat LaSalle in Tourney play. They'll tire quickly playing us barely more than 18 hours after advancing from the PIG. That means the walk-ons will have to take up all the slack. I just don't believe that their walk-ons have built up the stamina to keep pace with Mason who will come in fresher and with greater season-long conditioning.

Additionally, LaSalle has a three players at 6'9"–6'10". We just don't fare well against teams with tall players in the paint. UMass has one adept player taller than 6'6" in Hines at 6'10". We match up better with UMass.

La Salle. Hard to beat the same team three times

It has been proven statistically that this is a myth and a false one at that.

If I wasn’t too lazy to do so, I’d find some of the stories published on this topic.

Oh, and vcu didn’t have much trouble beating us three times last season. If we are clearly superior to our opponent, it shouldn’t be an issue.

For inspiration, keep in mind that the GW women, a #5 seed, won the A10 women's championship today.
After beating us, GW beat #1 Dayton by 5 and then #6 St. Joe's. All of the top 4 seeds lost in the quarter or semi-finals.

I guess my feeling is that barely beating them in OT twice does not mean we are "clearly superior" than them
