Last year's stats are here: http://grfx.cstv.com/photos/schools/ole/sports/m-baskbl/auto_pdf/2014-15/stats/season_stats.pdf

Stefan Moody averaged 16.0 PPG last season.

Sebastian Saiz is averaging 20.0 PPG (2 games) and 15.5 RPG (2 games). Stefan Moody is averaging 25.5 PPG (2 games). Sam Finey is averaging 14.0 PPG/6.5 RPG (2 games).

The only silver lining (maybe), they are 10-40 shooting 3 pointers as a team.

Discuss.

Mississippi 70 - Mason 50. We are struggling to score right now. Poor shooting & lack of getting to the charity stripe and making free throws will be our downfall.

This game will be closer than we think or the score will indicate. Unlike years past, we are slowly building momentum by correcting errors after each game. Have we seen mistakes repeated? Only glaring weakness is Shevons poor passing and ball security, which could be costing him playing time. If our shots fall, and free throws are made, we could keep it close.

Thompson looked like a middleschooler with the rebound clutched to the stomach. The Mercer players swarmed him leading to TOs and not one foul as I recollect. He seems to forget he is one of the biggest guys on the court. Hope that gets fixed soon.

Ole Miss alum. Maintaining my mantra that I don't care about wins or losses, I just want to see the team gradually improve over the course of the season. That said, this is the one game of the year that would bother me least to lose.

GIVING DAY 2023
My expectation for this game is simple: Win or lose, I want our coaches and players to leave it all on the floor.

I think we can all recall when we would go to these holiday tournaments under Larranaga, our guys took it as an opportunity to teach the "big school" jerks a little humility. We were the ultimate "chip on your shoulder" program. Beyond the RPI implications, winning those games was a big deal.

Watching our game against WVU last year in Puerto Rico, it was painfully obvious that neither Hewitt nor our players had any hope of winning or plan to do so. They were all going through the motions, a full two steps slower than WVU and completely outclassed in every phase of the game. It looked like they had been out all night partying the night before. Embarrassing.

If we're going to get back to winning consistently again, the first step is restoring the attitude that whenever our guys set foot on the floor, they're going balls to the wall and will back down from nobody. The rest will take care of itself.

I expect our teams will get back to having a chip on their shoulder similar to Larranaga's teams at GMU and Paulsen's at Bucknell.

I too, just want to get better. But like you want to beat Ole Miss, I want to beat Purple Radford. If that's the only game we win that season I want it to be that one. I'm tired of their fans thinking they are holier than thou just because they have a mediocre at best football team in the middle of nowhere.

Like many of you I don't expect to win but I do expect to see a continued improvement from game to game. I am OK with DP using out of conference games in his first year as a learning experience for everyone and allowing them to get on board with how things are going to go. I am looking forward to seeing how we do when conference games start....minus the first one at vcu...that might suck.

For game notes, see http://www.gomason.com/fls/25200/Game Notes/Men's Basketball/MBB_Game_Notes.pdf?DB_OEM_ID=25200:

"Mason looks for its second win over Ole Miss on Thursday, having defeated the Rebels in Oxford in the first meeting between the schools in 2001. The Patriots and Rebels have never met on neutral ground.

Mason is making its second appearance in the Charleston Classic. The Patriots posted a 1-2 mark in their first tournament appearance in 2010.

Ole Miss opened the season with two victories after defeating Georgia Southern on Monday evening. The Rebels are 18-6 in regular-season tournaments under head coach Andy Kennedy."
