A very ambitious Nov. schedule for The Mount minus G Mas. I assume they firmly believe if they are going to get a "W" this month it will be in Fairfax. However...

Mt. St. Mary 62
G Mas 70

Wow, that's a really impressive schedule. They are going to be much more battle tested than we will be going into this game. I hope our players show the same intensity from the second half of last night's game and not the first.

I think last nights game provided more questions than answers. First half the team looked complacent and lazy, perhaps expecting to win. I want to believe something clicked in the second half that might carry over to Fridays game but I just don't know. LVC played essentially 5 guys last night and they clearly got tired. So it's unclear what really prompted that second half rally. Either way, I think we squeak out a win:
Mason: 70
Mount: 68

One of our commits went to Minn. I forgot his name and too lazy to look it up. Will watch to see what we missed out on.

Rebounding should not be an issue as MSM was outrebounded by Hood, a D-III team picked for 7th in the same league that Lebanon Valley was picked 2nd in. MSM beat Hood 89-65.

Jenkins's should have a good game. Their experienced big men are only around 200 lbs.

I broke down and spent $20 for kenpom this year.

He picks Mason by 74-65. They picked Minnesota by 17 over the Mount; Minnesota won by 24.

Meanwhile, kenpom also ranks players nationally on a variety of statistical categories. We have 2 of our players in the top 10 in 2 different categories (based on just Division 1 games, so the LVC game doesn't count):
  1. Assist Rate (ARate): This is assists divided by the field goals made by the player’s teammates while he is on the court
  2. FTRate: Free throw rate is calculated by 100*FTA/FGA. This measures a player’s ability to get the line relative to how often he attempts to score.
Which one of our players is ranked in the top 10 of which category? Contest is only open to non kenpom subscribers? Winner gets the undying admiration of the rest of us on masonhoops.com.
I'll post the names of the players by 11:30 tonight.

Killjoy!! I'm a little suspicious of whether you are a subscriber, but I have no proof either way. So I'll just have to assume you are an incredibly analytic observer of our team with a keen sense of unusual statistics. Congrats!

Jenkins is seventh in his category and Moore is 9th.

http://www.mountathletics.com/sports/mbkb/2016-17/releases/20161117c6u5pn:

  • "Mount St. Mary's is holding its opponents to 28.6 percent shooting (14-for-47) from three-point range this season. The Mount's opponents are averaging 4.7 three-pointers made per game on the year."

We'll take that 28.6%! We're only shooting 17.5% from 3, so 28.6% would be an improvement:chuckle:!

By the way, if one looks deeper into MSM's stats, they're giving up a FG% of 49.5 overall, albeit against pretty good competition.
