American game only hit 58% of free throws.

Marginal Improvement in both those categories could be the difference between an underperforming team with a winning record and what we have today.

Been way off and too optimistic on my predictions on both games so...

Yeah, was watching Davidson struggle against Dartmouth (down 7 at the half). They wound up winning by 3 because their star refused to let them lose.

These early season games are almost always sloppy, poorly played affairs (the offseason is way too long in college sports for there to be cohesion from one season to the next), but at some point your experience, talented upper classmen have to step up and take the reins. So far that hasn't happened (or Paulsen won't let that happen in the case of Grayer).

Play some defense, take care of the basketball, play simple and I think we've got the talent to win. But I have no idea what's actually going to happen.

That only works if you think the problem with our defense is lack of effort. Feel free to disagree but I think guys are trying hard — we just need to get back to defensive concepts our guys are physically capable of executing.

Maybe not lack of effort, more like lack of concentration. I refuse to think that some of our guards getting blown by can’t do a better job preventing penetration. But sure, let’s throw some zone out there. I think we’re a better rebounding team this year, so let’s try it.

I’m not advocating for zone so much as getting back to clogging the paint and forcing teams to shoot over us, like we did during Dave’s first three seasons. We are getting stretched out and giving up way too much at the rim. It’s not worth the extra turnovers we are forcing.

Defensively we need to go back to last years pack line. Why on earth would DP change the base defense when most of these guys have been playing it their whole career here.
