Dayton is not great this year but the fact that they have a couple of good 3 point shooters obviously does not bode well for us. There's a lot of things our team does well but I don't think this is a great matchup for us. But who knows... I love this sport, I love this league, and anything can happen!

I would love to win two in a row at home. We need this one to put more distance between ourselves and the PIG. That being said, Dayton wins by 10. I would love to be wrong on this one.

John Crosby, still bitter we wouldn’t take him at Mason, continues to haunt us by hitting 5 3’s including one at the buzzer.

Dayton - 72
Mason - 71

Dayton has struggled on the road, but they’re a bad matchup for us because they can really shoot the 3. I’m pretty sure they are either the best or second-best shooting team in the conference.

If we don’t make a concerted effort to run them off the 3-point line, it could get ugly.

Mark it down, Gunnie plays the game of who goes off on Mason that no one expects.

VT hit 11 three's on Uva, which implements a similar defense. The philosophy is to give the 3 before giving up defensive/rebounding position. Guess just pray?

11 3s in an OT game...a game that was 61-60...and where VT scored 16 points in the second half. I'd say normally UVA wins that game, but they shot like crap themselves.

In a perfect world, you have good enough defenders to close off the paint and still get a hand up on the 3.

VT hit some very heavily contested 3s and that’s what you have to do to beat UVa.

But in our case, prayer certainly couldn’t hurt. :D

From kenpom for in-conference, on offense Dayton is:
  • second in the A10 in effective FG% (we're 11 defensively on that same stat)
  • fourth in 3 pt % (we're 7th defending the 3)
  • first in 2 pt % (we're 13th defending the 2)
  • 11th in turnover % when on offense (we're last in turning over other offenses)
Dayton's weaknesses appear mostly on defense:
  • 13th in overall defensive efficiency (we're 11th)
  • 12th in defensive effective fg% and turnover %
  • 12th in defending the 3
  • and dead last in blocking % and steal %
Given our own defensive failings, I'm predicting "over" is the better bet. And a high probability of it being a "Wings" game (we score 70 or more).

I seem to remember 2 years ago, a better Dayton team conducting a real clinic at the Patriot Center beating us down the floor, beating us by 34 pts. Watching Dayton at home scorching vcu earlier this year on tv reminded me of that.

So, what you saying is the first team to hit 90 wins the game? I hope our boys can keep up.

Me too!

Although 2 years ago, Dayton likely wanted to beat Shevon down the court so a fast paced game was particularly in their interest. I'm thinking Calixte and Wilson are quicker in getting back than he was.

Cunningham is going to get his, going to be a handful for years to come. Can we stop their perimeter players and keep them off the offensive boards?

Don’t have a good feeling about this one, plus it’s hard for this team to put together two solid efforts in a row.

Dayton 79
Mason 68
