Belmont beat Howard 95-78.
As @Pablo pointed out, Belmont has been on a Covid pause. We’ll see if the game is even played. If anyone has any updated info please post.
Belmont was 26 - 7 overall last year and finished 15 - 3 in conference play.
They closed out the 19-20 season with 12 straight wins including a 76-75 win over Murray State in the Ohio Valley Conference final.
Belmont has earned postseason tournament invitations 13 times in the past 14 years including 8 trips to the NCAA Dance.

Belmont lost their leading scorer Adam Kunkel (16.5 ppg) to graduation. They are led by junior Nick Muszynski, who at 6’11” and 235, averaged 15.3 ppg last year on almost 60% shooting. 6’2” Grayson Murphy averaged 9.8 ppg, 7.4 rebounds, 6.2 assists, and 2.6 steals last year as a sophomore. Both Muszynski and Murphy are the real deal and give the Bruins a chance to be great yet again this year. They are young with 9 freshmen and sophomores on the roster.
Belmont averaged 79.6 ppg while giving up 67.9 ppg last year. As a team they shot 47.5% from the field and 35.2% from 3. They held opponents to 41.6% shooting and 33% from 3. They averaged 18.3 assists per game during the 19-20 season while turning it over 11.9 times per game.
One key factor is that Belmont lost their two best 3 point shooters to graduation. Kunkel and Scanlon combined to make 128/320 (46.25%) of Belmont’s 3’s. So, this could be a weakness.
They are picked #5 in preseason OVC polls.
The game is on ESPN+.
My prediction: The Covid pause should give us an advantage. If we contain Muszynski and Grayson and we have a chance. Winning breeds confidence and having a great one - two punch will help Belmont. Sad to say, but this is one I think we lose. Hope I’m wrong. Belmont 75 - GMU 69.
