Georgia Southern comes in with a 7-2 record (one win was against NAIA school Tennessee Wesleyan University and another win was against Division II Bluefield State University) after beating Savannah State by a score 102-91 on Saturday. The two losses were to Towson (in the Gulf Coast Showcase by a score of 70-67) and at Bradley by a score of 62-57. Ga Southern beat Wake Forest on opening night in Winston Salem by a score of 85-83.

I know it is early to discuss RPI, but according realtimerpi.com, GA Southern is 37th as of this posting.

High scoring offense and a nice win on the road at Wake Forest. This will be a tougher game than I think most would have predicted. Defense and controlling tempo will be key. If we play two halves we win a close one 69 - 68. If we don't put together a solid 40 minutes we lose by 15.

A little Jollay trivia, I attended George Mason for several years and played Intramurals there for nine.

My wife who I later met on E Harmony attended Georgia Southern and enjoys hording animals and the Hallmark Channel.

We have one offspring together and you can bet the Jollay household will be a WAR zone on Tuesday if we can remember there's a game!

Don't expect us to win this game. But if we do, it will make up for the W&M loss in my mind. Georgia Southern has a legit team this year.

They are 5-2 including a win over Wake and one of the losses was at Towson by only 3 points.

Interesting note, GA Southern has only 2 home games in its first 13 games. They are road warriors.

Yes it is, no doubt. But when I see this team fight and scrap every game to the point of exhaustion I can't help but enjoy the experience of watching Mason basketball despite our record.

When I see the freshmen getting incrementally better each game, when I see Otis and Jaire summoning up one last ounce of effort to do everything they can at the end of games, when I see things go bad and the team picks each other up and encourage each other instead of falling apart and bickering, it gives me great joy and hope for the future of the program.

Yes the bottom line is winning and the foundation for consistent success in my opinion is on the correct path with this team. By default, a team composed of players like we have, is bound to have success eventually, and that's why I'm loving this season despite our record.

An interesting Kenpom stat: they are a top 20 team in offensive rebounding % (Glenn, there 6-8 guy is 2d in the country in that stat), but a bottom 30 team on defense in giving up offensive rebounding %!

This schedule has been a lot tougher than I gave it credit for being in the preseason.

Yes it's still early and no they won't stay there, but Ga. Southern is 45 in RPI right now.

Would be a very good, confidence-building win if we get it.
