Friday night we will be honoring our Final 4 team, coaches, and run at the Johnson Center. I applaud the AD for putting together a nice event on this and will hopefully build upon this event with more events like this in the future. We need to host more events to draw more attention to our basketball program. But thats a whole another thread which we can all go on and on. But lets enjoy this trip down memory lane!

My guess is that is has to do with L's schedule. Or maybe he plans on taking a few more vcu players while he's in Virginia. :superhappy:

Got it. Incredibly cool for him to come at all.

Will be there. Rumor has it Gabe (still playing) may be the only player from 2006 not present.

They were beginning to set up Dewberry Hall today. Two big screens on either side of the stage with around 10 Mason chairs in between. Looks to be about 20-25 round tables on the floor.

Saw Coach L at Brion's a few weeks ago, wouldn't give me the time of day. Talked to him several times during the glory years and always found him to be approachable and engaging. His time, while greatly appreciated for all he did for Mason, has passed.

Actually tonight at the dinner he was quite magnanimous, thanking a long list of Mason people (including Tom O'Connor!) for the opportunity and for their support. Said, in so many words, that the UCONN game was greatest memory he has had in his career.

Can't believe this hasn't gotten more discussion. We had an hour of Coach P on stage interviewing Coach L and the 2006 team (sans Gabe). Great stories (thanks to JV for breaking the ice), a few things we hadn't heard before, and it ended with Coach L giving a fundraising pitch to help Brad build the practice facility and keep the program competitive. Nice event overall.

Agreed. Classy and well put together. Would you liked to see Coach L talk more, but I don't know what he could say that most of us haven't heard before. I, for one, think it is great how Paulsen has embraced the Coach L era, and wasn't scared of it. Same concept of how Jay Wright embraced Massimino, Bruce Pearl embraced Summit, and Nick Saban has embraced the Bryant era.

However, I think possibly the best thing was the current players seeing everything. They saw the excitement and the possibility of a FF run was put in their head, if it wasn't before. They saw how a large number of alum and/or boosters support the program. Sometimes the FF banner sort of blends in to everything (still weird how that is front and center, and the USA flag is off to the side, but that's another issue.)

Well done Mason staff!

So is the practice facility still not exactly happening yet?
No, it's happening. Stage 1 is turning the Cage gym (top of the RAC) into an exclusive facility just for the hoops teams with 24/7 access. Stage 2 is building out from that gym to create new office space for coaches and locker space for players. Money definitely still needed if we want stage 2 happening anytime soon.

So, not an actual building, but a section of an existing building?
