I don't know that we'll really learn anything about the team from this game. It should be a blowout but you never know what the team goals are entering an exhibition like this. Mason by 15.

Every year and every team dictate different decisions, but given what we think we know about this team, i'd prefer to have a second closed scrimmage against another power 5 rather than play this game. I agree with Patriotsince81 that we probably won't learn much from this. I think we'd learn more from playing a power 5. That said, I hope we see a crisp performance as its an opportunity to play different players than the ones they see every day.

Does Paulsen actually need to learn that much more about this team? Most of the players have been playing for him for 2-3 years at this point. I'm pretty sure this is more of a "tune up" rather than a "what do I have" type of game.

Anyone know if ESPN+ works abroad? Gonna be gone the month of November for work.

If not, get a vpn account that will allow you to chose your "location". Should be able to figure it out if you google it.

My French friend let me use his account while we were in Europe to watch Caps games, was super easy.

Just guessing, but the staff may have wanted to give the guys a real gameday experience (even though the crowd will be tiny) to get them ready for the Penn game.

I can’t recall the last time we played an exhibition. It has typically been two closed scrimmages.

But we’ve been sluggish and fairly sloppy in our last several openers — if we play that way against Penn, they’ll blow our doors off.

It was also pointed out to me by masonfanatic that Hopkins is coached by a former Paulsen assistant- so that probably helped make this a possible game.

Paulsen mentioned as much during the Q&A at the open scrimmage. I'm not positive if he was referencing the scrimmage or the Hopkins exhibition, but he explicitly said he wanted to get them more of a game experience, as opposed to practice.

They were definitely rusty at start of scrimmage (lots of missed layups and shots), and heated up towards the end.

There is something you can’t simulate about performing in front of an audience. Glad our guys will get a chance to work out the kinks in a glorified dress rehearsal.

Hopkins gonna need to play with their lax sticks to get a hand in our face on defense...

Kind of hope we lose this meaningless game though because I always enjoy the boards losing its minds.

Might go to this as I enjoy Thursday HH at Brion's anyhow.

the last exhibition game was against Shenandoah 4 years ago, Mason won 91-51. Im looking forward to seeing this game on Thursday night to see what kind of rotation Paulsen uses. I do think this is a "tune up" situation, sort of like a dress rehearsal. Outcome means nothing but Mason wins this by 20+

VPNs will allow you to watch stuff as if you are in the US. I use one all the time when I travel overseas to watch Netflix and steam music from Slacker, i.e. services only licensed for US locations. StrongVPN would be my recommendation, but it is not free.

There are many free ones out there, but I prefer to use one that isn't going to treat me like a product.

FWIW, you should use a VPN pretty much anytime you are not connecting to a trusted Wi-Fi connection, particularly when you are traveling through airports, coffee shops, etc., taking advantage of a free connection.
