He came from the north. He was known as “Dave the Pale”. No one knew what to make of him. He had the face of a 12 year old boy and the body and freckles of an 80 year old man. His skin last saw sunlight over 30 years ago and that was during an eclipse.
This was not his land, in fact he has no land. Is this the hero who shall liberate us? Is this the gallant knight who shall be written of in history books and fireside chants long after we all have taken our last breaths in this world?
Legend has it, he has liberated two kingdoms prior to his arrival to our village. However, no man has faced a challenge of this magnitude. Our previous tyrant “Paul the Stupid” has done great damage. He has taken a once glorious and competitive empire and turned into the butt of limerick writers all across the 14 kingdoms. Paul the Stupid’s Nero like abandonment and destruction of an empire has no recent precedent. There is nothing to compare this challenge to.
But alas, hope rings true throughout the town. There was something about him. Something intangible, something that cannot be quantified. As he rode into town his aura preceded him. His horse looked proud to be carrying him. His shield looked proud to be protecting him. His sword looked proud to fight for him. His pants looked proud to be keeping his nuts warm.
As Dave the Pale saw the dejected faces of the people, he did not fret. When he saw the knights he had to work with, he did not fret. He simply got to work immediately. He did not look at the mountain in front of him as an impediment, he saw it as a playground to do what he loves the most: Rebuild Kingdoms to their once glorious past.
Man lives for a short time in this world. We are all ultimately destined to the same soil regardless of status. What lives on is what we do in our short time, the people we inspire, the principles of valor, tales of heroic battles in the face of adversity. Bringing communities of different political, racial, religious backgrounds together for two hours at a time to forget their differences and cheer for their heroic knights and chant with pride and in unison:
WE ARE MASON!!
