Baseball 2nd seed in A10 tournament

Baseball, after a very rough start to the season (0-8), has been on a tear of late to surge into 2nd place in the A10.

Mason is lead by Johnny Bench award semifinalist (top catcher), and the A10's leading hitter, Logan Driscoll, starting pitcher Zach Mort (2.38 era, took a no-hitter into the 8th this year) and closer Ryan Ricci (1.99 era), amongst others.

Tournament is in Arlington this year (GW's home field) and Mason's first game is Wednesday at 1:30pm vs. GW. Winner faces winner of Fordham/vcu on Thursday.

Their A-10 schedule worked out this year. They didn't play Top Seeded St. Louis as well as 2nd Place Fordham (We won the tie breaker). None the less though, Bill Brown did a great job turning this team around.

Interesting A10 tourney set up. Duquesne is the only school that doesnt offer baseball. That leaves 13 schools, but the conference tourney only invites the top 7 and then gives the #1 seed a first round bye.

Back in the day, the CAA invited 8 teams.

An 8 team, double elimination tourney is a drain on a pitching staff and can really put the winning team at a disadvantage to start NCAAs just days later.

I've seen the America East do a 4 team tourney. In low majors, thats probably best. The A10 is in the middle of the pack in baseball so I wouldn't go w 4 teams, but 8 teams is too many. I like 6 teams with the 1 and 2 seeds getting a first round bye. This 7 team set up is just weird, IMO.
