Interesting premise, although I’m not sure I agree that the A10’s woes have been because over other conferences taking bids from us. It’s been mainly the A10 shooting itself in the foot and not performing in the OOC slate and then canabalizing in the in conference slate.

Solid point, logical and stated well. However. Your post lacked your usual dark, sardonic but dry wit. Please address accordingly....

All kidding aside - agreed you have to take care of the shit you control before blaming others.

Have to use my single brain cell once in a while. Something about "use it or lose it".

I think the real problem for the A10 is the OOC scheduling is very "go big or go home". Seems like teams schedule one or two absolute powerhouses and then like 15 schools who routinely get investigated by the government for fraud. Like, yeah it's great if you pull off a win against Duke or Kansas, but if you don't no one is gonna care about you beating the brakes off of the University of Phoenix. Gotta find a way to play more teams in the 75-125 range. I think there needs to be more solidarity in scheduling among mid-majors.

May sound crazy, but the A-10 needs to hire a good PR firm to pimp the conference and the teams year round. With so much crazy roster turnover year over year, preseason rankings are just a guess, but P5 schools get the benefit of the doubt and start with top 50 placements whether they deserve it or not. Even our top teams have to re-climb that rankings ladder each year.

If the A-10 could do a better job hyping their top teams, getting media to pay attention to them, and have some programs starting the season with Top 25 votes and at-large predictions, it's easier to maintain that status than it is to constantly battle to break into it.

The best PR for the conference is getting our best teams in the tournament and going on deep runs consistently. That’s where the reputation comes from.

But I think the NIL environment right now makes it hard to maintain continuity because our best players are often deciding to leave for bigger paydays in bigger conferences. I think the idea is with the settlement (if it actually happens) will allow us to close some of the gap with the P4 because we don’t have to share 80% of our revenue with football and with the overall revenue cap of 20 million, we need a lot less revenue overall to come close to equal status with the big conference schools who also sponsor football. This will allow us to not only maybe recruit higher quality freshmen but also retain more of our stars and maintain continuity of roster year to year which is important for those early OOC games.

It’s hypothetical but it’s possible (so long as the courts don’t come in and blow it all up again).
