Thought it would be time to start this thread

In reminding myself of the matchups, I'm thinking an advantage of finishing #6 instead of #7 (where we are going into tonight's UR vs vcu game), is that #6 gets to player the winner of the #11 vs #14 play-in game, whereas #7 plays a #10 who would be playing their first tournament game.

Hard as it is for me to root for a vcu win tonight, it would give us a better chance of getting the #6 seed.

Well, you've got your wish.

Richmond still has games against Dayton, SLU, and Bona (who has decided to turn it up the last two weeks and is now a threat for a top 4 finish again). It's entirely possible they finish 1-4 in their last five (including their loss tonight to vcu) putting them at 9-9.

Mason has vcu, Davidson, GW, UMass, and Fordham. Going 3-2 would put Mason at 9-7 (not sure how that would work in terms of seeding if Richmond and Mason both finish with 9 wins with Mason playing two fewer. The wording is kind of vague -- would probably have to go 4-1 just to be safe, meaning somehow beating vcu or Davidson on the road). First step is not blowing it @Fordham this weekend.

I thought that they were going by % when teams had played an unequal number of games especially when there's no head-to-head discrepancy between us and Richmond. If that's the case, 9-7 > 10-8

It's a balance between win percentage and games played. They did not say what that calculation would be, though. If we went 4-1 to finish the season, we'd be 10-6.

I do wonder if it's worth the risk squeezing in Duquense of URI. Having an extra game against two of the lower tier teams to get to that 10th win? Only way they could do it would be to play next Friday.

Conference standings and championship seeding will be based on an approved formula balancing team win-loss records with total number of contests completed.

If you haven't noticed, while GW hasn't beaten anyone of note, they have won 5 out of their last 7 and are now 7-6 in the conference.

Their "Recent" Sagarin rating is #119 vs our Recent of #126 (not clear how Recent is calculated), so next week's game against GW is taking on more significance for seeding that perhaps originally thought.

And the prior GW game still pisses me off... should have been a win but no... now if we lose that probably sends us to the 8/9 part of the bracket. I certainly hope for a win though

The #6 is still there for Mason. Finish the season 3 – 1; Richmond finishes 1–3; beat GW, UMass, and split vcu/Davidson. In my book, anything #8 and above suits me fine, but I'd be quite happy with #6.

Richmond plays @GW, St. Lou, Dayton, and @Bona (possibly 1 – 3; finish 2 – 2 and Mason can't take the #6)

GW plays: Richmond, @Mason, Duq, @Fordham (2 – 2 favors Mason)

Richmond wins by 13 at GW. Pulled away in the last 10 minutes. The Spiders seemed to score at will down low--lots of layups by Cayo and Golden. Bamasille had 20 in the first half to keep the game fairly close, but wasn't as dominant in the second half ( 29 for the game). Freeman played well for GW as well. Bishop wasn't too much of a factor except for back-to-back 3s early in the second half

Byron Kerr (didn't he cover the Mason games for a bit before Bill?) moaned often at the refs' calls . Was clearly a "homer" --hanging around the Nats' announcers for too long maybe?

GW now drops to 7-7. For us to stay ahead of GW for seeding we'll need to beat vcu as well as them on Sunday. After that, GW has 2 winnable games--Duquesne and Fordham.

Yes, prior to Bill, Byron was the play by play for radio. He then went on to do GW, Nats and some Wizards stuff.

Byron and Bill worked together up until the 2005-2006 season. As HoopsAdmin said, Byron then went to replace Larry Michael at GW who left to work for the Redskins fulltime. GW had an amazing 2005-2006 regular season. It was early March '06 and I made a comment to Byron that he joined GW just in time. Three weeks later nobody was talking about GW........

Right now we would be matched up against Fordham on Thursday at noon. Worst possible scenario. No bars open early enough to drown potential sorrows. ;) Speaking of watering holes, has a bar been reserved or chosen as Mason's pregame gathering spot?
