I can understand why cline received POY, but no way Jack Gibbs, or JeQuan Lewis deserve to be on the All-Conference team over Moore.

They have a defensive player of year award, why don't they have an offensive player of the year award?

I have no problem saying Cline is the best offensive player, but overall player....

To hell with awards, just get that medal that counts this Sunday!

Despite significant improvement from last year, 7th seed isn't gonna get you any COY, POY or all conference 1st team. We just didn't get it done in the last 2 weeks but I can't wait for the new season to start this Thursday night.

Finishing 9th didn't seem to hurt Gibbs, whose team underachieved hugely this season.

Travesty that they have the coaches vote on these awards. Anybody who knows college coaches know they are the most myopic creatures on the planet -- they have no clue about the big picture beyond the next game on the schedule.

I WAS surprised Gibbs got the 1st team BUT not surprised our players didn't.

One of three candidates for player of the year, and you get second team all conference????? Wow, I guess Moore threw everything off when he wasn't nominated for any preseason teams.

I didn't think Marquise was going to win but not even getting first team hurts. At the end of the day POY is an award for guys who light up the box score and no one has averaged 18/8/6 in conference like Cline did going back the past 25 years.

I don't really have a problem with Gibbs on the first team. I would have put him on the second team but it's Jequan Lewis and Scoochie Smith that are the really egregious inclusions.

Marquise has Jequan Lewis beat in points, rebounds, blocks, usage, and scoring efficiency, and mostly by a wide margin. Lewis has him beat by one assist per game and half a steal per game, but his team also leads in the standings which is probably most of it.

Scoochie Smith had the third highest usage rating *on his own team* and Cooke/Davis are better defenders at the guard position. Would have rather seen Kendall Pollard or Charles Cooke from Dayton on the first team instead of Smith.

Leaving Marquise off for these two guys is crazy.

Edit: shameless plug of final POY watch breakdown. I compiled all important stats for all relevant players here:

Well hopefully Marquise just got a bunch of motivation for the A-10 tournament. Not making first team is redonkulous!

Shocked. Absurd. Angry. Bullshit. These voters are frauds. How I'm feeling right now for that kid who put this team on his back the entire year.

Lewis above Moore for 1st Team awards is beyond me. 18 double doubles, one triple double, and leading the A-10 in Rebounding..... AS A GUARD!!!!!!! That last statement right there is enough to garner him 1st Team status. The PPG and all other accomplishments is the icing on the cake for his argument to be on the First Team.

Shame on you A-10! Moore really deserved to be on First Team.

Unbelievable! SMH

Re: All Conference team predictions/conversation
Wow. The guy with the biggest complaint right now is Marquis Moore. I get wanting players from the first and (ref-aided) second place teams on 1st Team, but I don't see how you bypass a guard who averaged 10 rebounds per game on a team with little size who played so unexpectedly well to finish 7th.

As much of a homer as I am for Tyler Cavanaugh, and as much as I think Aldridge and Cooke had strong cases, I'm really surprised Scoochie and Lewis both got the nod over Moore.

Will give kudos to the voters for a couple of things though - Buckingham was the league's best rookie, even if he didn't score the most, so it's a nice job putting him on the team over guys with bigger stats borne out of opportunity. Same for the decision to put Dotwin on the team. Interesting that UMASS' top rated recruiting class wound up with no all-rookie team selections.

Likewise, impressive for the voters to pick Yuta, Cooke, and Kyle Davis for all-defense instead of the stat-compilers. That doesn't always happen. (though I have to say, I thought J Lewis on vcu was the best, most disruptive defender GW faced all year).
