GIVING DAY 2023
Assuming we are able to have fans at games next season, what types of promotions / giveaways would you want to see next season?

For those of you that are local but don't attend games, what is a giveaway that would push you over the edge from not attending to attending?

What are your favorite promotions/giveaways from the past?

Other than the blankets, last years giveaways were disappointing. I'm not a fan of any apparel because they're usually cheap and ugly. Some sort of bobble head should be obligatory every year. But I'm sure they're running out of ideas. Maybe a Darrell Green one next. Maybe a Mason Beer Stein.

All-time favorite giveaways were either the Snow-Globe or Coach L Cutting down the net statue.

Personally, I'm a fan of the player-specific giveaways (bobbleheads, mt. clutchmore, etc.) over generic George Mason branded stuff (blankets, hats, shirts, etc.). I've got way too many cheap GMU t-shirts, scarves, hats and the like. Plus, getting a player-specific item feels like capturing a piece of history. Although, creating those giveaways probably costs way more.

I go to as many games as I can, so giveaways don't really push me to attend. But any collectable series of bobbleheads, etc. would be pretty cool.

Here's the best scenario I can think of for my taste: a bobblehead series of the top-10 Mason players in the history of the program. They could stretch it over the next two seasons, maybe even keeping the list a secret until the week of the game. This could culminate in the retiring of the #1's jersey (George Evans) on the final night of the giveaway series. Bonus - they could do a double promotion that night and giveaway a replica Evans jersey/t-shirt.

Mason needs to honor and cement its basketball history. Last I knew, there was only 1 mens basketball player in the Mason athletics hall of fame. These 10 players could be a sort of inaugural class and set the precedent of honoring our players.

I'd love to see a Mason Beer Stein or a Mason Pint glass. Agree last year was somewhat disappointing. I've been a fan of the bobbleheads in the past, loved the Doc Nix garden gnome. T shirts have been hit or miss but the ones I wear them pretty often. I like things that I can wear, things I can put in my office, or things that I can drown my sorrows from during the season.

The glasses were really good promos with Evans, Sanders, etc. Not cheap like the Final Four glasses. I agree this school needs anything to play on tradition or anything historical. Wish there was somewhere on the concourse I could show my son some Mason history in photos, trophies, or wherever. He likes looking at that at high schools. Most of that stuff is by the AD office downstairs if I recall.

Dont want anywhere those Marvel costumed freaks can hide and jump out and molest me or him though.

Bobbleheads are pretty expensive to make. If you're going to do it, it has to make financial sense. Even if you go through the effort of finding a sponsor to either cover the cost or part of the cost, you have to be certain that it will actually drive ticket sales, and not just be a cool giveaway for people that would already be there. Doing all that work for an extra 200 people isn't worth it. Also, depending on who it is, Mason might also have to: 1) Get permission to use and promote someone's likeness. 2) Pay that person.

In my experience, the best promotion is a winning team.

I still have a Rick Barnes branded glass that was given out in either the late 90s or early 2000s.

The pictures of every player from the different seasons on the concourse walls are a great history lesson for younger fans, especially putting a face to the names they might have heard of but not seen — like Carlos Yates, Andre Gaddy, Kenny Sanders, George Evans, Rob Rose, Ricky Wilson, Robert Dykes, Steve Smith, etc. I bet many a majority of our current students couldn't even identify the five starters on our Final 4 team, so these photos are a great way to visualize the names they've heard.

Not to get overly nostalgic, but it's always fun to walk the concourse, look at all of the photos and think: got drunk with that guy, partied with that guy, got hammered with that guy, shared a smokey thing of some sort with that guy, barely escaped a DIP with that guy, almost got kicked off campus housing with that guy ... Ah, memories.

Yup, the big names and pics up there was a necessary first touch. Helps a ton.

I enjoy a good fake jersey every once in a while, but it would be nice to change it up. I'm thinking a small art print or something. I would think it wouldn't be that hard to get the rights to one from the Final Four, and printed en masse shouldn't cost all that much. Granted it probably wouldn't bring in people outside the fan base, but I'm being selfish. Something like this:

This is acutally a great idea. I would pay money for something like this. Looks like a scene from a modern comic book or Japanimation type of look.

This coul dbe on T-shirts or a poster and you could make it one of a series. Kids or even adults may want to attend multiple games just to get the whole set.

Mason should do a Ladies Night Out Game. Promo giveaway is a Jai Lewis replica dildo. Has history nostalgia, player specific, would make a nice piece on your office shelf, maybe it can come with a strap on belt for all the fans that like getting wearable apparel... Checks all the boxes. As an added bonus, Swimmom can used it as a roller for her famous chocolate chip cookies.

I had a larranaga wind up basketball thing at one point that I think was a giveaway. I really liked it but I lost it when my nieces and nephews thought it was a fun toy as toddlers.

If anyone ever sees it on eBay or has an extra let me know.

Are you referring to the Jim-in-a-ball? It was a basketball with a crank, you crank it, and Jim pops out a la jack-in-the box?
