A possible match up with Coach Konkol - nice!

It's an interesting setup. In years past you have 4 better schools host 2 games before Cancun with 4 lower schools going on the road for two games. I just don't know with those schools that were announced if we will be a top 4 hosting school, or a bottom four school that will be on the road?

Rhode Island was a host school two years ago.

Looks like out of the bunch we'd host but if the remaining teams announced are all P5/AAC/Big East teams we'd probably get bumped. We're on the bubble. At this point though, f**k it. Let's schedule every game next year on the road.

The Cancun tournament is a different format than most of the ones we're used to lately. They have two 4-team brackets in Cancun (so only 2 games for each school in Cancun), and then the 4 headliner schools also host 2 home games against the lower level schools. Cancun usually has 1 or 2 P5s along with the MVC/A10/CUSA type schools among the 4 teams headlining the event (Riviera Division), and the other 4 teams are low to mid-majors (OVC/Sun Belt/A-Sun/etc) in their own bracket (Mayan Division). I guess with Phil Knight's new event, Cancun couldn't get a P5 participant this year?

To me, Daniel Allar's tweet reads like those 4 teams (including us) are the headliners.

Only half the field announced in the tweet. So, we'll see who else gets picked up. From the looks of it, those are the four road teams (Evansville, Fresno St., GMU, La Tech).

If I were to guess they will include a team from the SEC, Big 12, and possibly Conference USA or Big East.

Still a nice tourney to play in!

Hey--I think Binghamton is Tony Kornheiser's alma mater! Maybe he'll give us a shout out on his podcast if we play each other!

Assuming the same format as last year, we will play two of the Riviera Division teams in Cancun, and host two of the Mayan Division teams in Fairfax.

Last year the Riviera Division games in Cancun were televised on CBS SportsNet.

Fresno State might be a good team next season. They finished the regular season at 19-11 this year and are a top 100 RPI team and they return four of their top 5 scorers.

If they could somehow gift us games against Fresno State and Louisiana Tech, and the two least egregious of the teams in the other division, we'd come out of the tournament OK.

I just worry what the committee is going to say about our schedule next year if we are on the bubble... but my guess is we'll get the automatic bid and it won't matter.

I love the optimism. Could be another down year in the A-10. Most of the 15 All-Conference players are graduating. Hope to see Otis and Jaire up there next year.
