PROVIDENCE UPDATE

Poor baby!

He may be throwing away his chances to get hired anywhere else. Except, perhaps as a recruiter. But if recruits see this....
If recruits watch the Cooley presser they'll want to play for Georgetown. The difference in coaches couldn't be more striking! One believes in his players and the other doesn't.

Don’t agree about him having a leash - he inherited a top 25 ish team and its gotten significantly worse each of the last two seasons.

I would guess he’s gone if he doesnt make NCAAT next year - and that’s assuming he survives this year.
By leash I meant he will get at least another year. I just don't see them axing him after two seasons regardless of the expectations coming in. It will be interesting to see how it plays out.

Providence isn’t firing Kim. He’s a good recruiter and decent coach. There‘s a big learning curve as a head coach, and I’m sure he’s got a fairly long leash up there to figure it out — especially given his contract and injuries to a few of his top players. He just needs to teach better and work on his temperament.
He gets one more year.

Shaka with the verbal altercation with the Providence coaching staff after a hard foul on a Marquette walk-on player in meaningless minutes. Never thought I’d see the day where I would root for Shaka.

Kim will get another year. He has 2 Top 100 recruiting coming in next year. But I believe it will be NCAAT or Bust for him next year. We can all thank Bryce Hopkins knee for little Kimmie’s downfall. Had he been healthy they would’ve made the NCAAT last year and not as bad this year.

Wasn't Fernandez a Top 100?
Fernandez was a top 100 - he has been doing better considering he missed last year due to injury.

Not sure if he has been recruited over at this point or hes still part of the plan going forward. Feel like he probably would benefit from dropping a level especially with free transferring. I'll be interested to see if Fernandez or Barron hit the portal.

If so, that is a REALLY bad sign for him.
I agree it would be, but at the same rate guys come and go all the time. They also could be recruited over at this juncture and if they want more of a "star" role, they might look to drop down.

I disagree on that one. I don't think either of them is Big East level. I know this will be unpopular, but, I think one of Kim's biggest downfalls is his loyalty to his players. He has kept lackluster players on the rosters out of loyalty instead of pushing them out for better players. I think if those to leave, it would free up space for Kim to put Big East caliber players in those positions.

Agree 100%.

I don't know that English can really evaluate talent. One more example. I questioned English when he said his number one priority was Devin Dinkins. I watched Dinkins in high school and didn't think he was anything special. Nothing against the young man, I just didn't see him as an A10 caliber player. Dinkins is doing well now that he moved down to the MAAC where the highest NET team has a 181 ranking.

Yeah I agree with you as well. I would have to dive deeper but I feel like he has more misses than hits in general with guys he specifically has started with (Justyn, Rich Barron, Dinkins, NNaji) versus the guys he knew from previous stops (Bailey, Oduro, Ticket).

Like anyone, he is going to have hits and misses, but to coach at a Power 5 level, you need more hits. And the hits need to be appropriate for the level especially considering who your peer coaches are.

No one has ever agreed with me on this, and that's okay. But I was never impressed with Fernandez. Overrated. IMO.

Respectfully, Nobody has agreed with you because you haven't presented any reason for us to agree with you. We all thought that he would burst out of the gate with the extra practice time. He didn't, because he couldn't figure out how to defend.

Midway through his frosh year at Mason he started putting it all together and he showed glimpses (I think he went off at GW) of what his talent was and really figuring it out. There were other examples as well but that one comes to mind. Then he got hurt and now it looks like hes just back to being a rotational player. Perhaps he lost his explosiveness from his knee injury that is needed to be legit in the Big East.

Seemingly from his stats it looks like he either is going to end up being a role player in the Big East or he will look to drop down a level so that he can be more of the "focal point" of a team.

Was he over hyped? Yeah maybe. Is he above where he should be? Quite possibly. But an athletic kid like Justyn Fernandez definitely has talent, its just a matter of if hes a little over where he should be in my opinion. We've both been watching Mason basketball long enough when you see a kid that is special, and Justyn fit that bill. He might actually end up being a high level player at a mid major level versus doing what hes doing in the Big East.
