Therence Mayimba, #23

Therence Mayimba pulled the trigger on Tuesday night, announcing via Twitter that he has chosen to play his college ball in Fairfax. The news comes after recent commitments from Eric Lockett and Trey Porter, and just before “Mason Madness” takes over the Pat Dome on Friday night.

Mayimba is a 6’6″ small forward originally from Gabon, but spent time in the U.S. playing most recently in Rockville, MD for national powerhouse Montrose Christian.  He’ll play for St. James School in Hagerstown for his Senior season. He is a consensus 3-star recruit across the various recruiting sites and is considered very athletic, but raw. Some comments from a site called inRecruit:

When watching Therence Mayimba play basketball, the first word that comes to mind to describe his game is raw. He is freakishly athletic (he sometimes takes the jump ball for Montrose Christian as a small forward), but he really needs to work on the fluidity of his game. He dribbles and shoots so rigidly that he looks robotic at times. At 6’6, 200 lbs, Mayimba has prototypical size for a small forward. Since his game is still in the early stages of its development, he is primarily a defensive-minded player right now.
