As speculated and rumored on CAAZone after a tweet from one of his former AAU coaches, Vertrail Vaughns is the first player to be announced leaving the program.  Because he is graduating, he’ll get to play elsewhere – and he won’t ding the Patriot’s APR in the process.  This is the first scholarship to open up and provides space for incoming help at the Point Guard and in the paint.  Below are a few lines from the press release.

FAIRFAX, Va. – Redshirt junior guard Vertrail Vaughns will graduate from George Mason University in June and complete his final year of eligibility elsewhere, head men’s basketball coach Paul Hewitt announced Tuesday. Vaughns will pursue a graduate degree and will be eligible to play immediately at another school next fall.

“Vertrail and I had a very good discussion and he has decided to seek a different opportunity,“ said Hewitt. “He will leave Mason with his degree and pursue a graduate degree elsewhere. Vertrail has been a valued member of our program and we wish him the best in the future.”
