Shevon Thompson working out for NBA teams as draft approaches

Shevon Thompson now has interest from at least three NBA teams. According a tweet from Moke Hamilton of Basketball Insiders, the Jamaican center worked out for the Washington Wizards today, and will work out for the Chicago Bulls tomorrow, June 17. This comes on the heels of Thompson’s workout with the Houston Rockets back on June 6th. NBA teams work out dozens of prospects, but any additional exposure has to be a good thing for Thompson at this point.

In yesterday’s mock draft update for Basketball Insiders, Hamilton went on to say the following about Thompson’s chances:

Thompson is currently considered a second-round prospect, but has been in to work out with several teams over the past 10 days. Known as being a ferocious rebounder, scouts are impressed with his timing and rebounding instincts, despite the fact that he only began playing basketball during his junior year in high school.

And on Tuesday, Hamilton tweeted positive reports from unnamed scouts:

Thompson is still raw, and could have benefited from additional seasoning at the college level if his eligibility had not been exhausted, but he only needs one NBA team to be willing to take a chance on his potential. He has truly unique rebounding ability, as he broke Shaquille O’Neal’s 25-year-old NCAA record for rebounds per minute this past season. Even if his draft dreams don’t pan out, one would conclude that he’s still be in good position to find a D-League contract, and work on his game in a pro setting.

The 2016 NBA Draft will be next Thursday, June 23, at 7 pm ET, broadcast live on ESPN from the Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn.
