Forward Daniel Relvao has chosen an odd time to leave GMU.  In the week leading up to the 2017 opening games against Lafayette and Louisville, the 6-9 Portuguese transfer announced his departure – despite many seeing this as a potential breakout season for him.

In the statement released by the school, Relvao said “This is a very tough decision, but I believe going home and being with my family while continuing my education in Europe is the best option for me.”  He went on to thank the program and the “Mason family” for supporting him during his time here.

Relvao’s decision has left Dave Paulsen with very little to choose from to guard opponent’s post players.  6-8 Freshman Greg Calixte is now the tallest player on the team, with 6-7 forwards Gonar Mar (Freshman) and AJ Wilson (RS Freshman) the other likely options at the 4 and 5 slots. UVA transfer Jarred Reuter is 6-7, but is not available until the 2018-2019 season.
