Moore and Jenkins Share Similar Path

Marquise Moore, a 6’2 point guard from St. Thomas More is currently at George Mason University on his official visit. Moore originally signed with Hofstra back in February, but reopened his recruiting when former Hofstra Coach Moe Cassara was let go. Since then, Moore has picked up interest from Mason, Tulane, Providence, and UConn. Moore could pick up valuable minutes next season due to a lack of depth at the point guard position.

One key to landing Moore could lie with current Patriot Jalen Jenkins. Jenkins is hosting Moore on his visit and the two have crossed paths numerous times before. Both players played in the CHSAA, a high school athletic association made up of Catholic High Schools based in New York City. While Jenkins played at Cardinal Hayes, Moore played at Holy Cross. Although they were in different divisions, the two schools did play each other in the our of conference schedule (Cardinal Hayes defeated Holy Cross 56-44 – Jenkins had 10 points, Moore had 12). Even though the two battled against each other on the court, they also became friends off the court. The two played together in the Battle for the City all-star game, which had the best private school players in NYC battle against the best public school players. Both players were also selected to all city and all state teams.

The connection doesn’t stop there. When Moore wasn’t happy with his offers out of high school, he decided to attend St. Thomas More prep in Connecticut. Jenkins was also set to attend St. Thomas More the same year. Jenkins plans changed after committing to George Mason. Jenkins eventually decided to take a redshirt  year at Mason over prep school. Meanwhile, Moore flourished at St. Thomas Moore which led him numerous division I offers.

Will their paths cross again? The connection between both Moore and Jenkins should help Mason’s chances. Will it be enough to help nudge Moore to Fairfax next season? We will soon find out.
