Mason to play Lamar Nov. 12

Two seasons ago, George Mason defeated Lamar 75-71 on senior night, in what would end up being the Patriots’ final appearance in the ESPN BracketBusters. As a condition of participation in the event, the Patriots committed to play a return game this coming season against the Cardinals, in Beaumont, Texas.

We can now put a date to that game — November 12. Via Avi Zaleon of the Beaumont Enterprise:

As part of a continuation of the Bracket Buster series, Lamar will play George Mason on Nov. 12, per [assistant coach Sherron] Wilkerson.

The Lamar Cardinals, a member of the Southland Conference, finished 3-28 last season, a dismal follow-up to their 23-12 conference championship season in 2011-12. The Cardinals are coached by Pat Knight, the former Texas Tech head coach and son of Bobby Knight.

Along with last year’s home match-up against Northern Iowa, this will end Mason’s remaining scheduling obligations from the now-defunct ESPN BracketBusters series.
