Looking to 2014 – John Crosby
Each year during the summer AAU tournaments, news slowly starts to leak about which schools are targeting certain players. One of the names George Mason fans have been seeing a lot lately, is 2014 PG John Crosby.
Crosby has been a priority for this staff for a long time. At 6’3″, he has the height that Paul Hewitt likes in a point guard. Crosby has been described as a smooth point guard that can get his teammates the ball in the right spots, but can also take over the scoring if needed. His basketball IQ is a strength on the court, and off the court he excels with a 3.8 gpa. Crosby plays his high school basketball at Baltimore Poly, where he averaged 16 points, 7 assists, and 6 rebounds last season. He has taken some unofficial visits to UNC and NC State and currently holds offers from George Mason, Creighton, Rutgers, Penn, St. Joe’s, Towson, UAB, and South Florida. Other schools currently tracking him include Miami, Kansas State, Stanford, Pittsburgh, Villanova, and Vanderbilt.
Crosby has begun to narrow his list down, and George Mason is one of the schools that he is seriously considering. In fact, some believe that Mason is currently the leader – from DMVElite.com:
“John Crosby said that he is very close to committing to George Mason. The Patriots have been recruiting Crosby very hard for a while and he recognizes that. Crosby will play out July and see if any other offers come his way. If none come that would change his mind, look for his commitment to Mason to come sometime in the fall.”
Recently, we caught up with Crosby to see how his summer has been going. While he is enjoying the recruiting process, Crosby does want to wrap things up soon.
“I’m open right now, but before the basketball season kicks off I want the process to be over. Summer has been going well. I got a chance to play against some of the countries best talent at the Reebok Camp and I played well. I’ll also be playing at the Big Shots All American Camp , DC Duel at Damatha, and the Great 8 in Las Vegas.”
When asked what he’s looking for in a school, Crosby shows his maturity.
“As I make evaluations on schools, I’m looking for a program that will push me to become the best basketball player as well as the best man I can be. Also, it needs to be somewhere I feel comfortable and where I have a good relationship with the staff and players.”
While it’s not over by any means, Mason fans should feel good with where the staff stands with Crosby. He was one of the recruits who attended Mason Madness last season and recruiting services have stated that George Mason is recruiting him harder than any other school. We will continue to update his progress over the summer and maybe we’ll see him in Fairfax next year wearing the green and gold.
