Final Four alumnus Gabe Norwood slammed his way into the headlines with two monster dunks against Argentina at the FIBA World Cup in Seville, Spain on Monday, Sept 1.

It was a slam dunk so emphatic that the official NBA Twitter account posed the question: was it the best dunk of the FIBA World Cup so far? The offender was Gabe Norwood …. The victim … was Luis Scola, the Indiana Pacers veteran of Argentina.

But Norwood wasn’t done yet. With his team trailing by 2, 48-46, in the third quarter, Norwood made … Spanish Leaguer Marcos Mata the latest addition to his poster club.

Gilas Pilipinas, the Filipino national team, were eliminated from the FIBA World Cup last week, finishing play in Group B with a 1-4 record, capped by a hard-fought 81-79 victory over Senegal on Friday (their first international victory in 40 years).

Since graduating from George Mason in 2007, Norwood has had a nice international career as a perennial All-Star for the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters in the Philippine Basketball Association, where he won the 2009 PBA Rookie of the Year award and is a three-time PBA All-Defensive Team selection.
