Tonight at 7:30pm, George Mason (1-2) begins play in the Gulf Coast Showcase against the Houston Cougars (1-0). The eight-team, three-day tournament in Estero, FL (near Ft. Myers) will continue Tuesday and Wednesday with all participating teams guaranteed to play three games apiece. Tomorrow, the Patriots will face either Kent State or South Dakota, and Wednesday’s matchup will be against Vermont, Wofford, Bradley, or old CAA foe Hofstra.

All games of the Showcase will be streamed live on the bd Global Sports Network YouTube channel.

Led by seniors Jalen Jenkins (17.3 pts, 9.3 rebs) and Marquise Moore (17.0 pts, 7.7 rebs), Mason will look for their first Division 1 win of the season against a Houston team led by senior guard Damyean Dotson and junior guard Rob Gray, both all-conference selections in the AAC. The Cougars have played two non-Division 1 exhibition games and defeated Morgan State 93-52.

Tonight is the second-ever meeting between the Patriots and the Cougars, picking to finish fourth in the American conference. The first-ever meeting between the two schools, an 88-84 Mason overtime victory, came in Fairfax back in March 2013 in the College Basketball Invitational quarterfinals. Mason shot 11-22 on treys and were led by 29 points from Sherrod Wright as they blew an early 17-0 lead but rallied to win in the extra period.

The Patriots will return home to face JMU at 6pm on Saturday, November 26.
