Who’s the favorite in each college basketball conference? And which teams are trending in the right (and wrong) directions? Over the next two weeks, we’re taking a look across the nation to see how college hoops’ most notable conferences are shaping up for next season. Today: the Atlantic 10.


So can we just stop asking the same question of whether the sky is falling? The Atlantic 10 isn’t going anywhere, nor is its impact on the national landscape. The conference, like its Big East brother, has proved — repeatedly and emphatically — that there is a place for basketball-first institutions even in a football world.

It will remain a field ripe for plucking the latest hot-coaching candidate, but the schools have been able to sustain their programs despite the departures. Jeff Capel, Anthony Grant and now Shaka Smart all moved on. VCU remained VCU.
