Coaching rumors swirl around Moton again (Durham Herald-Sun)

Since he arrived at North Carolina Central seven years ago as an assistant coach, LeVelle Moton has taken an annual ride on the offseason coaching carousel — and this year is no different.

Moton’s name continues to be tossed around as head coaching positions across the country open up.

“I’ve turned down jobs every year that I’ve been at North Carolina Central,” Moton said. “Some things people have heard of, some things they haven’t. I’ve turned down two NBA assistant jobs. I turned down the opportunity to be an associate head coach at a major, major Division I job. I turned down the opportunity to be a head coach at other jobs.”

Rumors linked him to the UNC-Charlotte position vacated by former head coach Alan Major, but the 49ers have reportedly hired Hornets assistant coach Mark Price. The hire will be officially announced Thursday afternoon.

After firing head coach Paul Hewitt, George Mason is in the market for a new head coach, and the Patriots have reached out to Moton’s agent, he said Wednesday.
